Yo,
My son kept pestering me ever since the promos got released on TV, so my wife and I took him to see the movie last week. I knew it was a sequel of Koi Mil Gaya (KMG), but I never got around to seeing KMG. I have now added it to my list of ’to see’ movies :-) Krrish does not start doing his superhuman stuff until a good 1.5 hours into the movie. By this time, I had finished oogling Priyanka chopra whose acting/dancing skills matched her dimishing clothes. My son had asked me at least 25 times if were in the right movie and when Krrish would start bashing up bad guys (or if at all) :-)
Anyway, once the characters are all defined and the background to the plot established, the movies moves into fast pace. Man, Hrithik rocks... the action scenes are terrific... matches the style and execution of the matrix movies. Hrithik is very convincing as a superhero with bulging muscles and confident body language. I watched a show on MTV (or maybe V TV) which showed how Hrithik trained in martial arts for this movie... and it shows in the movie. The movie is Hrithik all the way, and he has put his heart into it. He excels equally in action, emotion and comdey. Of course, Nasserudin Shah and Rekha has performed well (as one would expect). The other members of the cast have also done well. The plot has enough twists and turns to keep us interested. However I must warn that the first 1.5 hours is a bit of a drag with lot of songs and dances in the mountain passes.
I loved the movie. My son loved it even more, but only after Hrithik started beating up the bad guys :-) My wife (who understands little hindi) also loved the movie, and this is one of the few movies where my wife didnot fall asleep in the theatre, which is saying a lot :-) So, I can conclude that it is a wholesome family entertainer.
In contrast, we watched Superman Returns this week. While we liked the movie, the action sequences were not impressive and the movie overall had a dark and brooding air to it. However Superman Returns can’t hold a candle to Krrish. If we had choose between watching Krrish and Superman Returns, then we would unanimously choose Krrish.
So go ahead, watch it and enjoy!
