The new 2017 KTM Duke 390 is set to be officially launched tomorrow. This is easily the most awaited bike this year, despite being a facelift only. Such is the fan following for the KTM Duke 390. It had been showcased at the 2016 EICMA in Italy. The new Duke 390 will be offering better performance, better riding dynamics and even better mileage. We share all the details. The price of the 2017 KTM Duke 390 will be largely similar to the existing bike. The advantage KTM enjoys is its high localisation levels, as it is complete manufactured in India. This gives a lot of leverage to the company to price it competitively. The bike has been priced at INR 2.5 lakhs(on-road, New Delhi). The increase in price will be minimal and the new features will justify this. We had expected it to be about INR 20, 000 cheaper. As there is a lot of parts sharing with the Dominar 400 as well.

2017 KTM Duke 390 Design
It does. The new bike has an all new design. The 2017 KTM Duke 390 has split headlamp design, which seems to be inspired from the Super Duke. The headlamp is now LED and it has a bigger fuel tank of 13.4 litres. The side profile of the bike looks appealing and it gets the same exposed sub frame as well. The new bike does look a lot different from the current bike, especially in the paint scheme. The same orange colour is carried forward, however this time the orange colour is more prominent this time. The fuel tank too has been coloured orange. The tail lamps are also LED and look appealing too.

Does this compare to the Bajaj Dominar 400?
You can compare the two as they have the same engine. But, the 2017 KTM Duke 390 has 43bhp while the Bajaj gets 34bhp. The body weight of the Duke 390 is about 140 kilograms, while the Dominar is 180+ kilograms. So, the performance will be better on the Duke. Then, the Duke even gets TFT screen which isn’t there on the Dominar 400. Even the handling of the Duke 390 is better, but the ride is more composed on the Dominar and it will have have a more comfortable seat too.

2017 KTM Duke 390 Safety Features
To begin with, the 2017 KTM Duke 390 has dual channel ABS. We reckon the front disc brakes could see an increase in its size as well. There shall be slipper clutch too. A new exhaust shall be mounted on the bike and we expect some changes in the tuning of it. This time, the seat could be designed to be more comfortable for two than just one.

2017 KTM Duke 390 Mileage
In terms of fuel efficiency, the 2017 KTM Duke 390 will return about 40 km/l. There won’t be a major change in the mileage of the bike. With BS-IV, we could expect a reduction then. As mileage isn’t the main criteria for a KTM rider, the primary focus is on performance.
If that isn’t enough, there is a coloured instrument cluster and it will even get mobile sync option. The bike comes with a TFT screen with advanced graphics. This will enable seeing the navigation on the instrument cluster. A need for a separate GPS device will be eliminated. These are all exciting features that will be offered on the 2017 KTM Duke 390. KTM has been raising the bar making it difficult for competition to sustain. This will make it difficult not just for competition in India but even world wide.
