THE CAPITAL CITY
Among the number of places I have visited, Kuala Lampur happens to be one of the best of them all. If you are travelling to Kuala Lampur from Singapore via train, you will be able to have the view of the beautiful greenery outside the city. It is quite a refreshing journey in the outskirts of Kuala Lampur and it will take you about six or seven hours to reach the city.
The city of Kuala Lampur proved to be a well developed city with a number of huge buildings all around, and a very well planned road network which gives you no trouble, and there are enough taxi service to help you reach your destination. Even if the bus network is not too impressive as in Singapore, but the cheaper mono rail system makes the long journeys no problem at all.
You will see mosques in every corner of the city, but there are other religions too, and you will be able to see a few of the other religious centres too. We can just conclude that Kuala Lampur is a mixture of different cultures. This is the situation when I wondered if this place also features Unity in diversity like India does.
Established in 1857, Kuala Lampur happens to be the largest, and the capital city of Malaysia. Even if the airport is quite far away from the city, the express highways makes the journey very smooth and fast. This airport just happens to be one of the best you will ever see. The city has got some of the best shopping malls all around, and unlike the other big cities, this one has got some good air circulation between the buildings with low population.
THE TWINS
The major attraction of the city may be the Petronas twin towers, which includes two sky scrappers, connected by a sky bridge in the middle, on the 41st and 42nd floor. It is 170 m high and 58 m long. You can have a walk on the bridge, but there are only limited passes available, and you have to try very hard to get them.
But you can wander around in the lower floors doing all the shopping in the malls there. This tower looks extremely beautiful at night. They are the worlds tallest twin towers (these were featured in the movie Entrapment starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones and also in the song sequence in the Tamil movie Anniyan starring Vikram and Sada).
The 88 floored building was actually completed in 1998, and was the tallest building in the world until 2004, when Taipei 101 was built in Taiwan. Petronas, Malaysias national oil company was instrumental in building this wonderful structure, no wonder the tower got its name. It is one of the most beautiful structures in the world, seems to be designed as perfect as it could be. If you are a gamer, you might have played a few missions in these towers in Hitman 2.
THE HISTORIC CITY
Kuala Lampur has a rich history. The National Monument remembers those who died in Malaysias freedom struggle. This monument made of Bronze depicts a group of soldiers holding the Malaysian national flag, guns and a few lying on the ground. The fifteen metre tall statue was build in 1966, and happens to be called Tugu Negara in Malay language, which means monument itself.
Masjid Negara is the National Mosque of Malaysia, and it is also one of the largest mosques in East Asia, having a capacity of 5000. Another famous attraction happens to be the Batu Caves, which involves a number of cave temples. You can also have a look at the Independence Square, where the independence of Malaya was declared, where you will see a 100 metre tall flag pole, one of the tallest in the world.
A COOL PLACE
The real attraction is a few kilometres away from the city, the Genting Highlands. It functions both as a resort and theme park. It is also a good shopping centre, and got a casino and has a beautiful climate. You can also see a few structures made there, resembling the worlds most famous structures. You will see the models of Petronas towers, The Big Ben and a few others.
You will be able to reach there by bus or by the fastest and one of the safest cable cars in Asia, which will give you the beautiful view of the tropical rain forests from the top. This will provide you with a great chance to take some great snaps of the scenery. After you reach the top, you will be able to feel some fresh air and cool breeze.
Just like Singapore, we have Little India as well as China Town, both will seem to be different from the other city areas. But the city of Kuala Lampur still has some similiarities to many of the Indian cities (there is the traffic congestion in the city centre and some bad taxi drivers) as it is not as clean as Singapore.
There are a number of hotels there, from where we can manage to have some Indian food at low cost. But what makes this city different is those huge buildings and the large number of express highways. Kuala Lampur is one of those rare places which you should visit atleast once. With the low cost of living, and helpful people, Kuala Lampur certainly has a bright future ahead, as a tourist centre. Believe me, even a week is not going to be enough to enjoy this city. There are lots more to explore and enjoy in this city, but unfortunately, my time was restricted.
