Lead characters are hardly seen in classes, principal and a sexy professor have their own thing going, lead roles first jabber about their ignorance to peformning arts and then rock the house with in a few minutes, a 30 yr old man dances and plays while he wooes his college pal, another siren wearsthe skimpiest of outfits and sings "OM JAI JAGDISH" and then talks about her "SANSKARS" ! Still, KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI is a cult film for its freshness and treatment. Excellent production values and a captivating look add to the glitz as Karan Johar adopts a money-back guarantee policy while writing, producing, and directing his film. He pens a script that accomodates all the mediocrity, but in the name of "ENTERTAINMENT". This itself satisfies most of our audience, who couldnt ask for anything more.
Though the last half n hour drags a lot, KKHH is yet a tender, poignant, mature and believe it or not entertaining piece of cinema.ANJALIs pain was real. her pathos when she sees RAHUL, her first love getting cosy with TINA, her attempts at dressing like TINA to catch RAHULs fancy, her pangs of unrequited love - everything was so damn real. Even in the second half when RAHUL suddenly feels strongly for her ex-bes friend is understandable. KARAN JOHARs main aim was to activate his audiences tear glands, and everyone around from his actors to Music-makers [ a special mention to the films background score ; abound with emotional choruses ] fully support Karan Johars direction and elevate the films tera-coaxing aura. **KAJOL delivers a ultra-natural performance.
some of her scenes are really so well handled [ the train scene, also the scene when SRK consoles while holding RANIs hand; lyrical ] that you wonder if Johar was more in love with Kajol or SRK while making this movie. after initial exaggeration, RANI MUKHERJI shows great sincerity as a performer. the rest of the performers in their cameos - be it ANUPAM KHER, ARCHANA PURAN SINGH, HIMANI SHIVPURI or FARIDA JALAL or the little girl [ her name doesnt strike a chord now ] were competent. all n all, KARAN JOHAR deserves all the applause and accolades for he inermingled his story, emotions, and commerce so very well.
I guess he was a commerce student. he knew how to bring envious profits for his father who had become dubious about producing films after the debacle of DUPLICTAE. very few people understand this why KARAN JOHAR made KKHH, taht too in such a manner. Damned be those critics who can dare not to recommend this film to the cine-goers just because JOHAR decides to pour in all the pot boiler elements. This reminds me of a dialogue from GURU "JAB LOG TUMHARE KHILAF BOL RAHE HAIN, SAMAJH LO KI TARAKKI KAR RAHE HO". This goes for you, KARAN ! and SHAH RUKH, yes, for you too !P.S. - KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI is the bridge where SHAH RUKH KHAN - the performer met SRK - the entertainer, and then SRK decided to take over SHAH RUKH KHAN for the sake of pleasing his "JANTA".
Though the actor tried to re-surrect at times [ ASOKA, SWADES, KABHI ALVIDA NA KEHNA ], his audience didnt let him rebel for long. KKHH is the best blend of SRK and SHAH RUKH KHAN.final rating - 1/2cheersharsh
