Come on, guys, it is time to have something sweet. A really good entertainer is coming our way and we must really indulge. KMHJ is a one-night story at a small airport called Ganganagar. A small plane carrying about a dozen passengers develops a snag and the pasengers are stranded for a night. What happens between them, and the bitter-sweet exchanges make up the film. Arshad Warsi has the longest role in the film. His role is what candystuff romance is made of. He works at the airport only so that he can meet his now-married lover who comes only one night a year at the airport. The girl in question is Mahima Chowdhry and the night is this.
There are many competent characters in the entire film of the like of Praveen Dabbas, Irawati Harshe, Sachin Khedekar, Jaspal Bhatti, etc. All in all a good ensemble. The piece with Praveen Dabbas is hilarious, what with two Sindhi girls chasing him for marriage and the piece between Irawati Harshe and Sachin Khedekar is sensitive. Dont miss the cigarette bu tt dialogue.
In keeping with modern times, the comedy has lesbian innuendo as well as an implied jerk-off sequence. But all in good jest. Arshad Warsi manages to bring the laughs and the tears both. But the role is not a reprise on his Circuit role. This role is a tad bit subdued, but good. Mahima does justice. The scene where she converts from Mahima Burkha Chowdhary to Mahima Bosom Chowdhary is funny. All other actors are used meaningfully. The movie has its share of PYTs (both male and female) who do well.
The music is soothing, but not very great shakes. It goes with the film. However, the dialogues are excellent. The same cannot be said of the screenplay though, which drags in some scenes.
There are two surprises in the movie. First - a thank you note to Karan Johar in the titles and the second - Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh Khan is there throughout the movie, but he comes onscreen only in the last ten minutes, making them the most unforgettable ten minutes in the film. The concept of the film is novel. Debutant director Samar Khan has really picked up a good subject. One more thing is that despite having so many characters, he has done justice to all. We can relate to all characters in the film and not one is wasted.
The movie is not a heavy-budgeted one, but has a very good-feel. If you feel like some kootchi-cooing with your girlfriend, this is surely a good one this summer. So what say, Samar, kuchh meetha ho jaaye?
