Sippy junior's debut is ok but not like his dad's

I am lucky that I watched the movie at a preview even before the movie hit the theatres. So people must be waiting the verdict on this awaited movie.Well, Ramesh Sippy was a great director from his brilliant debut in Andaaz(1971) to Saagar(1985).After that something went wrong and all his films simply bombed and were bad.Still the expectations from his son are sky rocketing. To be honest Sippy Jr. does job an okay job for his debut but he needs to work hard to compare with his dad’s debut ’Andaaz’, forget comparing him with ’Shakti’ or ’Saagar’ leavealone ’’Sholay’’.

The story is about Raj(Abhishek bachchan) who is an Nri and resides in New York(well haven’t we already had enough NRI stuff). His mother is a doctor(Suhasini Malay) and she wants him to marry a good girl(just like Mousmi Chaterjee in Hollywood Bollywood).Naturally our dear ’’RAJ’’ has to come to apna-desh Bharat to search for a bride(I thought there were enough good NRI girls).Actually he somes to India for his cousin’s marriage and in the process meets the girls chosen by his uncle(Satish Shah in another stereotype role).Uncle ji gives the charge of chosing a bride to Namrata(Aishwarya).Needless to say that our HERO falls for Namrata rejecting all the other girls. Now after the initial reel-romance the director drops a bomb(atleast he tries to, so what if the bomb diffuses), Namrata is already a mother of a 7 year old(even I do not beleive it).The entry of her so-called surprise packet husband makes the film lose its grip.Sippy tries hard to be different, but how different can u get when the screenplay is not well.I wont spoil the audience of the site by revealing further details.I can give u a hint that the surprise packet actor is a K........, well leave it.

Although the director has chosen a rather different romantic story but the creenplay leaves a lot to be desired.Sippy senior also made his debut in a more bold movie but he had Salim-Javed as screenplay writers while Rohan has Neeraj Vora.Sippy’s direction is ok and he can improve a lot.

Aishwarya Rai looks old enough to be romantic with Abhishek(interestingly she is going around with a younger Vivek oberoi off-screen as well) and young enough to be a mother of 7.Infact her performance and dailogues with her son invoke much smirk and laughter than any emotions. She has lost a lot of weight and seems to have lost most of her charm.Although she looks good in some songs but thats it.It is rather strange that director chose Aishwarya opposite Abhishek despte that fact that she is 3 years elder, in real life, but he tries to give justice by making Abhishek fall over a single mom. However Aishwarya’s performance is not a patch to her work in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Abhishek like his real life falls for an older heroine(Karisma is also 2 years elder to Jr. B) but still looks better than his earlier movies. He acts in adignified manner but still has much scope for improvement. Shankar-ehsaan-Loy’s music is fair at times. It is rather sad to hear Javed writing a song like ’’ABBG...’’, something which we used to do in school life. Overall, Rohan sippy’s Kuch Naa Kaho is much better than Abhishek-Aishwarya’s earlier disaster ’Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’ but is not a patch on his dad’s debut .
