I had gone on vacation to Simla by train via Delhi. It was an excellent journey by Rajdhani Express. To goto to Simla you have to go by Mini Train from Kalka Junction.
It is very refreshing as the train goes winding up the numerous hills. You can see various flowers and trees in blossom. You really feel as if you are in heaven. As you climb up it becomes cooler. You pass through many small stations like those on a film set. Very filmy, indeed. Finally we reached the top at Simla station and then got into our hotel which was wooden and was a typical traditional house with a nice view of the outside mountains and peaks. The water in the taps are mostly frozen as it snows frequently. We were lucky to be there when it snowed. The water heater gives hot water with difficulty though.
We wandered around the MALL and shopping areas. The evening are very cool and pleasant (The place where I sit in my Office is also as cool). There are guides who take you to Kufri where it is covered with Snow. The Gods were supposed to be roaming around in these areas. Kufri is an hour or two ride by car/van and as you reach the sides of the road are covered with snow. You can feel the chill after some time. On reaching Kufri we reached the peak by horseride. On reaching the top you could do little bit of skying, snowball throwing, ride on a Yak. You really feel like staying on as there is snow everywhere. It is really wonderful to see the other snowclad peaks. You also get a peek at the snowclad peaks that are a part of China.
On our way back we went to our hotel by getting down at the vertical lift that is built so that you can reach the upper part of Shimla quickly. You get a large variety of cheap watches that come from China.
Simla is a very nice place for people who want to escape the maddening city life.
