Imagine watching Matrix, the kung fu way. Rather the Stephen chow Way.
This guys has got loads of creativity and vision. Be it Shaolin soccer, Kung fu hustle or CJ7( which am yet to c, the reviews of which are pretty good).
In my own usual way, id bullet the review points
1. The naming convention used is in itself crazy. The place where all the action takes place is called Pig Sty Alley, the notorious gang is known as the Axe Gang and so on!!! so much for English translations
The cinematography of the movie and the computer graphics used in the movie, gel really well.
The movie stays true to the CHINESE traditions of kung fu, tai chi and herbal medicine!!!!
The Cast consists of Chows usual gang and have done their role to perfection
5. The Stund choreography is fantastic. Having an arene for a fight is one thing, but using the whole arena for a fight in a good fashion is fantastic
- The story line, is again a mockery of so many other movies. A childhood love, a sweet lolly pop retained as remembrance by the leading lady, a guy trying to be a kung fu master being beaten up etc, take a dig at the old time Chinese movies( the ones that we c every week on Indian channels, the translations of which are so funny)
7. The specialty of each kung fu master in itself crazy to imagine. There is this lady whose main weapon is shouting from her belly!!!, and there is a guy who is as flexible as a rubber, and there is another guy who has got a rock solding head( thats the villian btw), another guy who fights with his bangles and there are these guys who attack people with their music( actually there are lots of Indian singers and music directors that do this to us :(, but this is a different kind of attack)
The music of the movie, is typical Chinese music. The re-recording towards the climax is fantastic and has gelled really well with the stunt choreography
STUNT CHOREOGRAPHY is creative in its own way. Cant really call it original, its a mix of Kill Bill and Matrix, Kill Bill for the violence and Matrix for all the flying that the hero does. Creative coz the bloodshed is not shown really but is shown by using shadows, the movie can be PG u c. Its not just the choreography of the action sequences which is crazy, but the methods of causing damage to the opponent is too good as well. The hero stamps the legs of opponents, the lady kung fu master uses a Bell to blow the villian away, and at last the Hero uses his palm to release a force so powerful that it casts its impact in the shape of a huge palm on a building.
10. The color tint used in the movie varies based on the mood of the scene and adds to the feel of the movie
11. The script has been penned to include lots of suggestive moods. Example, when our hero goes to unlock the door behind which the villain is, a big flood of blood is shown approaching the hero!
and hence, the movie is bundled with lots of creativity and style which is pretty new for Chinese cinema.
Kudos to Stephen chow for churning out yet another stylishly made Kung Fu Entertainer
