For maharashtrian delights

Kunj Vihar is a restaurant offering Maharashtrian snacks situated outside the Thane station ( West ) opposite Ashok cinema. As you get down at Thane railway station on the west side start walking towards the S.T. bus stand. When you reach Ashok cinema near the turning of the road , Kunj Vihar is bang across the road.

Kunj Vihar is famous for its Maharashtrian snacks. The jumbo vada pav available there is the best. There are several other stalls along the road which have tried to replicate Kunj Vihar’s vada pav but Kunj Vihar remains the leader amongst the pack.

If you sit inside the restaurant and order vada pav , it will cost you Rs 8.The vada pav is served alongwith a dash of tangy imli chutney, green chutney, chopped onions, Ghati masala and fried chillies. If you take the vada pav from the counter and eat standing or sitting in the bench section it will cost you Rs 6.I would suggest you to have the vada pav in the restaurant as it is more convinient.

Besides vada pav there are number of other snacks of maharashtra such as kanda bhaji, dahi usal , puneri misal etc. Try the Puneri Misal only if you are habituated to eat food with a generous dash of chilly. I had tears in my eyes while having Puneri Misal and I never ordered it again. South Indian dishes such as dosa , vada and idli are also available but I do not know their prices since I go to Kunj Vihar mainly for its jumbo vada pav.

After treating yourself to tasty snacks you can wash it all down with a glass of lassi priced at Rs 10 or mango lassi priced at Rs 15. For the kids there is a Softy ice cream available at Rs 5 outside on the counter.

Kunj Vihar is a boon to thousands of travellers who travel using ST bus and thane railway stations. The pricing is very affordable and yet th quality is high. If you go to this place do not miss the jumbo vada pav.On national holidays such as Gandhi Jayanti (which was yesterday) the restaurant section is closed and only vada pav and lassi are available.

Visit this place for a taste of authentic maharashtrian food. Highly recommended.
