Boooooringgggggg!!!!!!

The film basically tries to show conflicts in the minds of terrorists and how terrorists are created and not born but fails to inspire any kind of emotion either sorrow, anger or angst among the average movie goer.

Plot:(Could notwrite a better spoiler than this)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurbaan_(2009_film)

The Good:

  1. Om Puri is a class Act and he is the only one who manages to build up some tension and nervous moments in the otherwise completely flat movie with a typical storyline. He also makes some sarcy comments in the movie that could be considered as the only humour in the movie.

  2. Saif does a decent job in the movie as the charmer wooing Kareena and as the Terrorist on a mission.

  3. The Plane blast looks very realistic and maybe is the only good visual effect in the supposedly hard hitting movie.

  4. Intermission.

The Bad:

1.Kirron Kher not doing her typical Punju aunty gig(I didnt think she was great at that but after this movie you will never dare tell her to experiment). She tries to impersonate a Pathan Accent which is so atrocious you really want to thanks all the Hindi dubbing artistes of the Disney’s animation serial character Abbismaal from Aladin:).

2.Kareena doesn’t have much of a role in the movie except love Saif, hate Saif, Cry, cry again and again love saif at the end.

3.The Editing of the movie is bad with jarry sound effects and also scenes which are made to look like cut scenes from a game. The scenes lack continuity and look like Episodes of a serial.

The Ugly:

Vivek Oberoi before learning to act or before signing a movie needs to first learn to speak English like a normal human being. His attempts with English in an American Accent are so bad that you cringe in thetheater and wonder what people would think of Indians when this movie is shown internationally.

There is a scene in the movie that is worth mention:

Saif is masquerading as a professor who teaches the interpretation of Islam and its effects is the modern world in some university in New York. Vivek oberoi walks into the class and they engage in a discussion of sorts about the Taliban and US involvement in creation of Taliban to fight the Russian fighter planes. The discussion also talks about how the Quran also preaches peace but the rest f the world ignores this fact and chooses to believe that the Quran preaches only violence. I believe these parts are inspired by movies such as Charlie Wilson’s War(2007) starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Phillip Seymour Hoffman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_wilsons_warand Traitor(2008) starringDon Cheadle and Guy Pearce. However the downer of this scene is that this discussion is spearheaded by Vivek Oberoi who makeswhat could have been a very interesting discussion completely tacky(coz of his fake accent and irritating facial expressions) and also somewhat boring. In fact Vivek Oberoi is so incredibly rude in this scenes and he tells dialogues like" You white people ." which makes him more racist than the rest of America. At this point you seriously begin to wonder if film making in India would ever reach a level of greatness and feel deeply saddened if you are wondering this while sitting in the theater watching Kurban!

So if u have not seen any other movie related to terrorism a.k.a New York which seems to handle this subject far better than Kurbaan please go ahead and give it a go in the theater .You might love that movie and maybe would be quoting the dialogues for the remainder of your natural born life.

For the viewer who has a seen quite a reasonable amount of films this would seem flat, uninspiring and not at all thrilling. I guess watching Road runner show on TV might scare you or Tom and Jerry might give you a thrill but Kurbaan who just make you think where have my 21/2 hours gone or in my case could I get a refund for my 170 bucks?
