Tribal break

Break away from city life in inevitable in our stressful routine these days. That’s why we find conventional concept of a long vacation is out and now it is the time for short weekend breaks, which helps to rejuvenate.

I was looking for a break form my hectic schedule & while deciding on the place got to hear/read about many places. A naïve name ‘Kurumba Village’ did catch my eyes most & I booked my tickets. Kurumba Village [KV], named after one of the five ancient tribes of Nilgiris - Kurumbas.

Enjoy the toy train travel from Ooty or Mettypalayam [the train travels between Ooty n Mettupalayam] & get down at Coonoor. If one is looking for an adventurous trip, you can opt for the busses going to Mettupalayam after getting down at Coonoor. I had booked a pickup with the resort guys. Half an hour drive through a picturesque road & then need to take a right turn from the main road. And guess what!

I entered a completely new world - kachhi sadak, sky touching trees, aroma of spices, tribal look cottages spread across. Did they send me an Indica or it was a sputnik to bring me to this amazing land? Came back to senses with a warm voice ‘Welcome to KV’. I saw a couple of visitors too with kids making noise.

Was heading towards the cottage after having the fresh coconut water as welcome drink, when could hear a river murmuring & birds chirping around and decided to explore around before relaxing. Huge area covered with green with cemented pavement to walk around. KV offers two mode of accommodation, cottage n suite. Cottage is big enough [I would prefer to imply the word big rather than spacious] for 2-3 people. Room was bigger than average & the best part is the balcony with cane chairs. The best way to spend time amidst nature is sit in balcony with a cup of tea/coffee and a good binocular [it would be better you one recognizes various birds]. Or, use the hammock to sleep. The cottages are well distant and management had given their best to enjoy nature by tv in each rooms with limited channels & the best part is the entire area is with no network. At times mobile signal is available at the dining space, but too feeble. We were trying to reach the main road post dinner and after walking for sometime [read reaching the bridge] could not make out anything, as it was completely dark & was not carrying torch.

The 3 days 2 nights package includes accommodation, three time meals, morning tea/coffee and usage of indoor/outdoor games with no room service. Oh, now I must mention about the pool. Blue splash in green, very cool n well maintained. There is small pool for children too. A walk in the spice garden early morning will make one to hog onto breakfast and a guided trek to river side will really challenge your physical fitness J

Don’t get afraid if you wake up in the mid of night hearing the drums or crackers, it must be the elephants intruded within human locality or nearby tea-garden.

Night, while going back to cottage, one will find the KV folks spread al over with big torches to show you way. Amazing way to maintain serenity of darkness.

I enjoyed my stay with:

Being with loved ones

Completely with nature

Essence of tradition

Food spree

Away from work/stress [no coverage]

Fitness activities – spice walk in morning, swimming pool, trekking activities and walk all the way till dining space even for evening tea/coffee

Excellent service

Last but not the least the Pool

I cherished the real meaning of’joy in looking and comprehending is nature’s most beautiful gift’.

Ideal for honeymoon & enjoy weekend serenity.
