''Don't judge a book by its cover''

There is always an expression, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, however, in the case of Bollywood films, the audience will always judge a book by its cover. People are telling me that Kyon Ki looks like a 80s film, and this crap and that crap. Kyon Ki is an excellent film by most of the standards. Why are people of India so stupid enough to pick a lousy no good film like Shaadi No.1, over an excellent film like Kyon Ki. Honestly, from all the Diwali releases, Kyon Ki is a better picture. Salman Khan was on a winning streak this year, however, sadly, when it came down to his best film this year, in terms of film and performance, it had to be ruined by the Indian audience. I have no problem if people went to see GM first or even Shaadi No.1, however, to ignore an excellent like Kyon Ki truly hurts me. There is that idiot Taran Adrash who can’t write a proper review because all he cares about are comedy and sex all the time. Come on, Kya Kool Hain Hum gets a three star while Black gets two stars and Kyon Ki gets one and a half star, does that make any sense. Here is what I have to write for Kyon Ki.

Kyon Ki is one of the most-awaited films for Salman Khan and in the BO market for the second half of 2005. By looking at the promos, people are expecting to see a film that will be highly on emotions. And since its Diwali/Eid, people want to see comedy and not a serious film like Kyon Ki. However, since I have been such a Salman Khan fan since Maine Pyar Kiya, and judging by the promos from the film, I am expecting him to deliver an amazing performance after Tere Naam. So despite being a serious film, the question is, IS KYON KI WORTH THE WATCH? The answer is a resounding YES, go and watch it. Kyon Ki….its Salman Khan, who has deliver a awesome performance (more on that later)

PLOT (taken from IndiaFM)

Anand [Salman Khan] is in love with Maya [Rimmi Sen]. Maya too loves him, but is always out to play a prank on him. Anand and Maya are planning to marry, but Maya’s prankish nature results in a freak accident in which Anand throws her in a swimming pool on their engagement day, not knowing that she can’t swim. Maya dies…

A devastated Anand is convinced that it was he who killed Maya. Unable to overcome the shock, Anand loses his mental balance and is hospitalized.

Strict and old-fashioned Dr. Khurana [Om Puri] strongly believes that brutal force and oppression are the only way to tackle insane patients. Initially, even Dr. Tanvi [Kareena Kapoor], his daughter, feels the same, but she has a change of heart later.

Dr. Sunil [Jackie Shroff] develops a special bond for Anand. He also gets to know that Anand’s family was instrumental in making him a doctor. Anand revolts against the strict hospital regime and rebels against the system. Dr. Tanvi takes up Anand’s case and treats him with utmost compassion. Anand gets completely cured, but during the course of this treatment, Tanvi loses her heart to Anand.

But the father is against the match…

There are so many scenes that stood out in Kyon Ki such as, the scene where Salman Khan gets admitted in the hospital, Scene where Salman Khan explains the significance of music, Rimi Sen death, Salman Khan and Om Puri confrontations, Jackie Shroff final speech to Om Puri and Heart-rending climax. Those are example of scenes that Kyon Ki is a must watched films of 2005.

Himesh Reshammiya music is simply great. The soundtrack should finish this year as the best selling album of 2005, I HOPE. Songs like “Kyon Ki Itna”, “Dil Keh Raha Hai”, “Aa Jeene Ek Pal”, and “Jhakte Mare” are excellent.

I felt that Priyadarshan direction was good, however I have to agree with Taran, from a guy who has done excellent dramas like Virasat and Gardish, Priyadarshan could’ve done a lot better.

Suneil Shetty is garbage in his role. Kareena Kapoor has done a great job. She is bound to win come accolades from her performance. Her ending scene will be a shock to the audience and her fans. Rimi Sen plays her part okay. Om Puri was great.

TO THE TWO BEST PERFORMANCE IN THE FILM

Jackie Shroff was simply great Kyon Ki, might earn him a nomination for best supporting actor. He played his scenes excellent and his dialogue delivery was good. His final scene was simply great.

THE SHOW-STEALER WAS NONE OTHER THAN SALMAN KHAN. Salman played his role superbly. Salman Khan was the heart and soul of Kyon Ki. Now here is an actor who has improved a lot. Your heart will go for Salman Khan at the ending. Salman Khan should earn a nomination for this performance, and SHOULD win the Critics Actor award for it. His fan-following WILL increase for this performance. Well-done, Salman Khan. His performance should finish off as one of the best of 2005.

Kyon Ki is one of the most watched films of 2005. I hope Kyon Ki collections increases because if it doesn’t, then serious, I don’t want to be mean, but the Indian people can’t judge properly. And considering Salman Khan huge star-power at the BOI, his fans should see it, why it is when Salman Khan plays a serious role, his films flops. Come on Sallu fans, then how is Salman Khan suppose to be consistent in his career. He can’t always do the same comedy roles all the time.   Well, I hope my preaching encourages the people to see Kyon Ki because it’s simply great. If a movie like Swades can flop and get a Best Movie nomination, then Kyon Ki should be the Swades of 2005 then. Well, go and watch Kyon Ki (esp. Salman Khan performance). Kyon Ki is one of the best films of 2005. Well job!
