KYONKI..........MEIN ....

David Dhawan and Govinda team up yet again, this time for Jeetendra’s KYO KII… MAIN JHUTH NAHIN BOLTA, which is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.

Inspired by director Tom Shadyac’s 1997 hit LIAR LIAR, which starred Jim Carrey in the lead, KYO KII… MAIN JHUTH NAHIN BOLTA was initially titled SAJAN RE JHOOTH MAT BOLO. But, like Rakesh Roshan, Jeetendra also has a ’K’ fixation and it was decided to alter the title to the present one.

KYO KII… MAIN JHUTH NAHIN BOLTA stars Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Rambha (Tara Deshpande was initially signed for this role!), Sharad Kapoor, Satish Kaushik and Anupam Kher in key roles.

The gist of the story:

Raj Malhotra (Govinda) is a lawyer from a small district who dreams of practicing law in the Mumbai High Court. To fulfil his dreams, he heads straight for the city where dreams turn into reality -- Mumbai.

Once in Mumbai, he realises that it is difficult for small-town lawyers to establish themselves as people in this city are judged according to their status, not by the talent they possess. He realises, he needs to have a godfather to make it big in the city.

At the court one day, Raj comes across noted lawyer Tejpal (Anupam Kher) and is impressed by him. On seeing Tejpal’s son-in-law Adarsh’s (Sharad Kapoor) comforts, Raj starts feeling jealous.

At this stage, Pyare Mohan (Satish Kaushik), Raj’s friend, enlightens him that Adarsh was also a small-town lawyer like him. He stated working with Tejpal, wooed Tejpal’s elder daughter and ultimately the two got married. Once married, everything Tejpal owned was taken over by Adarsh.

Inspired by Adarsh’s story of rags to riches, Raj also starts planning and plotting in order to achieve his goals. He starts pursuing Tejpal’s younger daughter Sonal (Sushmita Sen) and gets married to her. He too eyes Tejpal’s enormous wealth, but Sonal is made of different stuff. She doesn’t want to stay with her father, but moves bag and baggage to the slums where Raj lives. Raj tries to reason with her, but fails.

At this juncture, Adarsh laughs at Raj and tells him that he would now be the sole heir to Tejpal’s millions. Raj replies back that he’s luckier to have a partner like Sonal and in the end, would emerge victoriious by owning the biggest mansion in the neighbourhood and with the best of cars at his disposal.

In order to accomplish his imaginings, Raj starts working doubly hard, compromising on his principles at every step. He lies all the while and within a span of seven years, achieves all that he had dreamt of.

During this period, Sonal gives birth to a baby boy. However, Sonal is discontented that Raj has changed drastically. He is no longer the innocent and honest person she loved, but had become a liar and a manipulator who could go to any lengths to earn a few bucks.

A rift occurs between Raj and Sonal and she walks out on him. The situation moves from bad to worse when Sonal now seeks a divorce. Observing the tension between his parents, the son gets concerned. One day, he spots a falling star and wishes that the father stops lying, so that the parents can get back together.

Miraculously, his wish comes true and Raj loses his ability to lie. What happens next?

KYO KII… MAIN JHUTH NAHIN BOLTA has music by Anand Raaj Anand.
