Daag hi daag-----

Dear Friends, I have always awaited for movies from Yashraj production house. The kind of cinematography, direction and especially music, Yashraj has always churned out is, perhaps, the best in the entire country.

Last Friday, I went to watch one of the most awaited movies "laaga chunari mein daag", which boast of an unusual theme and best performances by the protagonists so far.

Lets see as what movie had to offer me and its viewers in India.

Directed by: -

Pradeep Sarkar

Produced by: -

Yash Raj and Pradeep sarkar

Starring: -

  • Rani Mukherjee as Badki

  • Konkana Sen Sharma as Chutki

  • Jaya Bhachchan as Sabitri Sahay

  • Anupam Kher as Shivshankar Sahay

  • Abhishek Bachchan as Rohan

  • Kunal Kapoor as Vivaan

and many more.

*Music: -

*Shantanu Moitra

Story in the nutshell: -

Badki and Chutki, the two daughters of Shivshankar Sahay and Sabitri live together in Banaras. Thier life takes a turn when their elatives start threatening them to throw them out of the ancestral abode, they lived in.

With Mr. Sahay cribbing over the fact that he never had any son, Badki Badki decides to go to Mumbai to help her family, where she is exposed to the bitter rwealities of a metropolitan.

With a ill father and still studying sister, she ends up in the business of’call girl.’ But what happens when her younger sister and her family comes to know of her reaility. Will they even accept her and what about the society?

These are few questions that Director tried to raise through his family com social drama.

Direction: -

Pradeep Sarkar proved his mettle in the last movie - Parineeta. However, this time he missed the bull’s eye just not by a whisker but by the yards of length. I actually wonder as why did he choose a topic as sensitive as this when he knew he won’t be able to handle it with the keen eye as required.

My say  -   "A story that could have been wrapped in an hour was dragged onto two hours"

Music: -

Sad Music is what all I can say! Yashraj is known for their musical excellence and when they fail to deliver is really heart breaking. Music failed to flow with the subject/theme and at the same time lyrics also were not the kind to be remembered for long.

My say - "Hope yashraj camp turns back to the masters they have worked in the past for better tracks."

Performance: -

Rani Mukherjee

Though she tried her best, she couldn’t fit in the role. A wrong choice indeed. Th edirector failed miserably to get the best out of her. A movie that could have been the best of her career, actually ended up being one of the average performances by her.

Rating - 4/10

Konkana Sen Sharma

Well, she is teh one who steals the show, despite the presence of big stars. She is, as usual, natural and suits the role.

Rating - 8/10

Jaya Bachchan

Reminds of saas-bahu soaps on television. She was there to cry and just cry. I hope she is such a brilliant actress, she could have done better. A piece of advice for her - avoid such roles - please.

Rating - 5/10

Anupam Kher

Another natural actor who tried his level best to meet the demands of the role, but yet again failed due to insincere and insensitive handling of the sunject by the director.

Rating - 6/10

Abhishek & Kunal

They hardly had anything in the movie. I think they were just roped in due to the star value. Abhishek should avoid such roles and well Kunal you can try to experience with movies only when you have enough platform to show your skills.

Ratings for what?

Hema Malini: -

A timeless beauty, though she comes for few minutes she brings the screen to life. She is amazing.(I avoid mentioning of Guest appearance but she did her part so well that I can’t complete the review without mentioning her acting calibre.)

Screenplay and Cinematography: -

Good work done. Well, except cinematography there isn’t anything commendable in the movie.

My last say -

Full of cliches. Could have been a better movie, had Sarkar been considerate enough not to make it a masala movie with all those elements of commercial cinema.
