The movie as the name suggest is for girls only.and Pradip Sarkar has kept no stone unturned to bring that out.
There is no very big surprise element as far as the story goes. The story is quite predictable but the depiction is remarkable. The story revolves around 2 cities Benaras and Mumbai. Both the cities are very different but are beautiful in their own way. While Benaras boasts of its ethnic beauty and its ability to absorb all the sins and still be simple and clean, Mumbai on the other side means only business and the true international city of India, with cultural values on the side of erosion and a new unknown genera evolving from it. The city is portrayed in such a way that its fast life comes out but along side its heritage.
The director has showed the city is ruthless, but still it has a heart and has the power to fulfill all your dreams. Rani’s look in the Benaras and Mumbai speaks volumes about the same.
Konkona Sen plays the second lead in the movie. She did full justice to her role although her scope of acting was not exploited to the full extent but still she managed to leave her touch in places. The part where she speaks to Rani along side the ghat, in Mumbai is really great.
I think after "Black" this movie is the best performance of Rani too. Jaya Bachan was a complete cry baby in the movie and had nothing much to add. Kunal Kapoor did justice to the role that he was suppose to play.and once again have emerged as a heart throb for millions.
Abhishek Bachan’s role could have been ideal for a junior artist, but I think he was pulled in just to increase the star power of the movie, as neither the movie nor he gained anything out of it.
Anupam Kher’s performance had nothing much to speak about.
The real star of the movie is its director i.e. Pradeep Sarker. He has portrayed each and every scene in a very beautiful way. The whole movie was a pleasure to watch because of its beauty. The songs were picturised in a fabulous way and thankfully were few in number.
On the whole it was a great watch for the weekend!
