The other day when I got hold of a friend’s cassette of Lagaan, Jilmil’s (another MS member) review raced through my mind and I recollected that she had given a good rating to this album. Indeed, it looks like A.R.Rahman is back in form after giving a dismal score in “One 2 ka 4.”(Remember “Osaka moraya….” or whatever that song is).
There are 8 songs in Lagaan:
Side A:
1) Ghanan Ghanan
2) Mitwa
3) Radha Kaise Na Jale
4) Lagaan….
Side B:
1) O Rey Chhori
2) Chale Chalo
3) Waltz Of Romance
4) O Paalanhaare
Although nothing to beat Rahman’s masterpieces like “Roja, The Gentleman, Rangeela…etc” the songs of Lagaan are good and worth listening. Of the above I liked Ghanan Ghanan, Mitwa and Chale Chalo very much. Ghanan Ghanan and Mitwa have good catchy beats whereas Chale Chalo has a feel of patriotism in it. The remaining songs are OK.
One of the good things about this album is that good music is aptly supported by good lyrics by Javed Akhtar. For a change Mehboob is not the lyricist of Rahman songs, so the lyrics actually make a lot of sense. As far as the singers are concerned all have done a very good job.
In short the complete album is good and certainly worth listening.
