Such A Shame

Director Raj Kumar Santoshi has tried to make a bold film but ended in giving us a typically masala film. It’s a story about 4 women and their lives.I watched this movie yesterday and I would like to comment on it.

The story of the film in short goes as follows :

Vaidehi(Manisha Koirala) leaves her husband’s (Jackie Shroff’s) home in the U.S as she feels that she is being treated badly. She is also pregnant and is disowned by her parents. She runs from home and in the way meets different people.

1) Maithili(Mahima Chaudhary) who like every other girl dreams of marriage, having her own family. But her dream is shattered when her father fails to pay the dowry demanded by the grooms family(This is still practised in Indian Villages).

2) Janaki (Madhuri Dixit) who is a small stage actress. She is an rebel of all sorts. She drinks, smokes and is even pregnant. She is ditched by her lover but hopes that he would marry her someday.

3) Ramdulari(Rekha) a story of a woman, how she is raped and the trouble she faces when her son falls in love with the girl of higher society.

Of the male star cast Jackie Shorff is quite natural. Talented actor like Anil Kapoor is wasted.Ajay Devgan also does justice to his role.

Of the female star cast Manisha Koirala has a one-dimensional role where she has no scope to express her talent.Mahima Chaudhary does justice to the role. The one’s who steal the thunder are Madhuri and Rekha.

I have given this heading because the director had already given some huge hits and this being a excellent subject he tried to make a masala film and the whole story goes wasted.

The music of the fil, by Anu Malik is below average and nothing to great about.
