Lakshya
Released in 2004, the word Lakshya means objective. Karan as Hrithik Roshan himself gets the meaning of Lakshya from Romi (Preity Zinta) in the movie.
Directed by the super Dil Chahta Hai director, Farhan Akhthars second film stars Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, after their tremendous on-screen chemistry in Koi Mil Gaya, the release of Lakshya was filled with hype. And, it didnt disappoint. Though not a Dil Chahta Hai, its been above semi hit rating easily !!
The Plot
Karan is a happy-go-lucky dude with a dont-care attitude towards. Living with his rich parents, he does not have anything definite in life. His girlfriend, Romi is a modern girl who speaks her mind. Karan and his father share a ego conflict. His father is not at all amused with Karans ways. Karan, on the other hand, resents his father telling him to find an objective.
In a discussion with friends, Karan resolves to join the Army. But, can this rich, spoilt man deal with the discipline of army life ? Is army life his Lakshya ?
More importantly, can he find what his true objective is ??
The Actors
Hrithik Roshan is very good. The performance of a happy-go-lucky man with no mission is super. However, he could improve on the scenes with a lot of emotion.
Preity Zinta is as always super. Even though she is used a lot in the film, some screen time would have been even more better.
Boman Irani is the best ! A complete change from the comedic roles (Munnabhai, Main Hoon Na), he was super as the stern father. the scene where he talks with Hrithik on the telephone is one of the best, Ive ever seen.
Music
Pick of the lot is Main Aisa Kyon Hoon and Agar Main Kahoon. Lakshya is also a nice song. Kitni Baatein was definitely not needed.
Pros
A great plot and superb camera work. The mountain-climbing scenes were super. Bomani Irani and Preity Zinta.
Cons
Not much, but an extended role of Preity Zinta would be good. Also, some comedy in the post interval portions would be good. Amitabh Bachhan should have got a bigger role.
Overall, a very nice cinema. Watch it, at least twice.
