Dil Chahta hai was one of the good movies of our times. But the bad it did was, rose our hopes to infinity and put Lakshya under magnifying lens. After looking at the movie promos, if someone claims to not have any idea about the plot would be an utter nonsense. Fortunately, it gave me a new perspective, and dampened my bloated expectations of Lakshya.
So the real question was how will it be different from any J.P.Dutta movie?!

Actors
Hrithik Roshan, as always has tried to put all he has in the movie, but unfortunately I still dont rate him as the best and seriously would rather watch a movie with his mesmerizing dance numbers.
I have some concerns about his stiff neck style of acting, if you carefully watch all the movies in which he has tried to portray a challenging character his neck suddenly becomes too stiff, same was the case when he tried to play a college student.
Although, I would rate him as one of the best dancers around, but I feel Prabhudevas style is congenitally different than his, where Prabhu is more flexible but not as graceful as Hrithik. Somehow they didnt gel, I appreciate the effort though.
I still have to give two thumbs up to Hrithiks expressions! There were times I relished his powerful current of emotional outburst. Especially, when he explains Preity his Lakshya of capturing the mountain.

I would have liked if Amitabh would have stuck around a little more. As always he is one of the bests we have in bollywood. I can never stop my tears when Amitabh cries, nothing had changed this time as well.

Preity, looked too old for her age, too old for Hrithik. I always thought Preity was pretty until Lakshay happened. She looked too shabby, she had bags under her eyes. I think she has to pull herself together, if she needs to stick around as a top actress.

The answer ... The movie was not about a weeping pregnant wife left behind by an Indian soldier. Or about a killed soldier who was not lucky enough to even see his unborn. But it was about the right (or wrong) reasons why one joins the army. It was about the soldiers themselves, and lighter moments shared by them at the peak of panic. Also, it was about the powerful pain of breaking up for all the wrong reasons.

Ya it Lacks...a lot of things I would like in a movie, but in the end, I feel this is the closest one could get to reality with the repeated theme of Indian soldiers fighting in the border. I salute the Indian Army!
