There are three Landmark outlets in Chennai - The Nungambakkam one near the Gemini Flyover , one in Spencers Plaza and a brand new one in the recently opened Chennai City Centre. I have been to all three , the first two - quite a few times.
Best think about landmark stores is the variety and quality of books. Ultimately a book shop should be strong in its core competency ie books. Landmark does have an exhaustive genre of books and a good collection in each of these genre. Bargain books too are available once in a while.
The staff are unobstrusive and do not rush you . The number of stools to sit and glance especially in the Spencers one are too few. You could have a few more , for serious book readers like me , I need to read a few pages of every book that I eventually buy , so need to read them comfortably .
One sad thing about these modern day book stores is that the managers are hardly great readers - I miss that shop in Old Delhi where that old uncle would give you a nod of appreciation when I asked him Gunthers Death be not proud . It is more of a Barnes and Noble type retail business now.
Sports book - for a cricket fan , No Cardus here , no Beyond the Boundary till very recently , none of the old Cricket great books.Only biographies of Ganguly ( sic) and Fannie De Villiers ( Why would anyone want to read that !) , same in other sports too I guess though once in a while I do find a rare sport book there. That definitely needs improvement.
