(Note: I didnt find this title by ED Bono so writing under title Lateral thinking. Apologies for the same)
How to have a beautiful mind by Edward De Bono
What is thing in the world out there that will make u a force to reckon with...people will say that this is guy to be with ... he/she is lovely talker and will never let u say that u r so boring or lets talk something else now.... well I think Edward D Bono (EDB) has put this trick very beautifully in his book How to Have a Beautiful Mind..
It covers all aspect of a good conversation right from talkers to topics ...questions and ways of exploring new things while conversation.... how to stop some one without making any bad impact on the person .... how could be interesting in a conversation ...... how to relate and imply, infer n deduce things from a heated, chill or ne kinda conversation....!!
He starts off with the need of having a beautiful mind explaining how bad a smart person can look dumb or behave dumb if he/she is not having this essential sense of good talking ..... how things can go wrong if you are not responding in not a positive but constructive manner....I will say every one should atleast try to b interesting through his/her talks...as I believe that conversations draw conclusions, principles n thoughts which lead us in life....can change ones life...
EDB has mentioned some ingredients which are necessary for a good conversation to go on and on.... these include ... i) Good Listening ; ii) Constructive Feedback ; iii) Ability to break at the right point ; iv) Creative ; v) Towards the goal of conversation; vi) Making talks interesting .
I am not EDB so will not go in depth of each and every of above .....!!! I would like to comment on what EDB has to say on being creative in conversations.... He mentions a really funny Zulu Principle here which emphasizes a person to know all details on one strange topic like zulu community from RSA... , (this one is a real crazy.....)mating habits of Hippopotamus(this one is a real crazy.....) and many more .... I was laughing and thinking that it is a real masterpiece ...!!!
Take this : Just imagine u met this person and wanna talk to her desperately but not a single point u can start a talk with her ... then u can use this a perfect ice breaker..... as I feel introductory talks are out and too boring... so talk of zulu community .....may be she found u as interesting ....
Also EDB points out on how to stop someone and correct in a conversation... a good point has to be made when the talk is going haywires and out of context... I mean what is wrong in that...
On the cons of this book I can say that EDB has kept it too naive apart from his zulu principle....and few more.... He talks of being interesting and on the other hand he talks of attitude which I feel is someone very core and unchange-able ...!! so a bit of contradiction there......!! Rest I feel it is a good read in the end...!!
