An unusual sizzle!

My first visit to L’autre was the result of a sudden decision. Though I’d seen the sign several times during visits to My Home Tycoon (the LifeStyle building), for some reason I didn’t think of going there. Why choose L’autre when 10 Downing Street is just next door.

A friend and I were eating at Roll Call and she noticed the board. She told me she had heard of an unusual dish that was served at this place. A sizzling brownie! We decided to try it out for dessert. We went in and the place was welcoming, but empty…well almost. At least it was not shady. But our experience was wonderful.

L’autre has a nice selection of drinks. The mocktails are mostly cream based. The iced tea is something I liked very much. Their prices for cocktails and other spirits seemed very reasonable, although I cannot comment on them as I haven’t tried any.

The menu is not as exhaustive as it is in many restaurants, but they definitely serve a nice variety of dishes. There is a selection of pasta, Continental, Mexican, Indian and Chinese food. Their serving size is more than decent and the food is very tasty.

But the icing on the cake (or should I say the chocolate sauce on the ice-cream?) is the sizzling brownie. This dessert is nothing more than a choco-walnut brownie brought on a sizzling hot plate with a scoop of ice-cream and lots of chocolate sauce. The concept is wonderful. And the dish itself is out of this world. Whoever thought of this first deserves an award.

The place is quiet and the music is unobtrusive. The service is friendly and not too slow, except when they have a special show on. At times they can’t seem to handle too big an order. The prices are reasonably easy on the pocket. I wouldn’t say this is an inexpensive place, but it is not way too expensive either. I don’t think that one would need reservations here on normal days either. If they have a live band playing or some event happening, make sure you reserve in advance. And whatever you do, don’t come back without trying the sizzling brownie. It costs Rs. 95, but is truly worth every single paisa!
