Blogs are ruling and revolutionizing the web world. The communication and information transfer are getting easier and faster with this feature and you can get to know about the latest news from all interior parts of the world even before other commercial news sites and media gives a report on them. The recent involvement of bloggers in delivering news related to Tsunami Relief is evident of their ability to reach the masses easily than any other means. The bloggers are spontaneous and though not presented formally with utmost perfection, these bloggers are there to give you instant news about anything and everything under the sun.
Blogs are now becoming the most read portals than any other commercial sites. Everyone who has something in his mind to write on is a journalist here. I know that you people are wondering why I am speaking about Blogs in this review. Of course I am relevant. The site on which I am writing a review on is actually a blog and not a commercial site but why I chose to write on it is because this blog is more professional, informative and entertaining than any other Blogs or even commercial sites for that matter.
Guru Subramaniam, a software consultant is the one who writes on and maintains this blog. His postings are mostly about recent trends in software industry especially about Google, movies (Tamil, English and Hindi), music, books and also life in Chennai. He is a two time winner of Best IndiBlog award. This blog is one place where you can learn how a blog should be maintained to best attract the readers and also to make them to come back to the blog again.
Here are the reasons why I like this blog so much along with my derived opinions to make your blog popular
Updates
The blog is updated often and everyday there will be some nice information to read on in his blog. Updating information often is very much important while starting a blog to get noticed by the readers. One blog in a week will disappear like a drop in the ocean as readers have many other portals and billions of information sites to surf through. So at least while starting, a blogger should blog often.
Photographs
What you can convey through 1000 words can be conveyed in a single picture and when information comes along with a relevant picture, it is easier to understand, attractive to read, and is more complete. Having understood this, you hardly find any of his blogs without any relevant pictures and that is a big plus. He also maintains a photo blog with some amazing pictures. As he is having a digital camera, he is able to click the incidents on which he is writing and posts it appropriately with the text. As far as I have seen, he is a nice photographer too.
What You Blog About?
As I said, he mostly writes on movies, music and books which are my interests too. This is very important, do know your target readers and have a brief note about your blog on the top of the page to give the reader a quick info about your blog as you see in this blog.
Appearance
I like the look of the page. It always looks fresh and bright with a right combination of colors in the layout. The white background, the black script, brown links, green banner head all makes it ever fresh to look. Of course, blog’s appearance is as equally important as its content. Personally, I feel only light colors makes a blog in the more pleasing to eyes than any other.
While reading through the content of his blog you will see some brown colored text in the middle of the paragraphs which are nothing but the links to some other sites or his own old blogs that are related to the particular word. For example, take this line
“A.R.Rahman is scoring music for a Chinese film “Warriors of Heaven and Earth”. “
In the above line definitely the word A.R.Rahman will have a link to some of his old posts about A.R.Rahman and “Warriors of Heaven and Earth” will be linked to the official website of the movie, thus providing complete information. This is an aspect which I like most about his blog.
Reviews
And above all his movie and music reviews which make his website more famous. His reviews were always comprehensive. He makes nice analysis on the movies and his observations are sometimes surprising. Just read his most recent movie review on “Black” you will understand how great a reviewer he is. One more feather on his cap is that the music review of “Swades” that he posted in his blog has been selected and a link to his review has been added under the media section of the official website of the movie.
Of course a blog on movies and music is incomplete without reviews.
Other Ramblings
One more section which I like the most is his ramblings about movies, Tamil movies especially. He posts some debatable articles about movies and music and makes the readers to take part in the debate and thus making the communication two sided. And this quality is very much important as to draw involvement of the readers. As he is a big fan of Maniratnam, Steven Spielberg and Writer Sujatha like me and most of the others who are passionate about movies, he writes more about them and draws immediate attention.
Only Con
The only thing which I don’t like is for some reasons he doesn’t write reviews on even some of the major hit films both commercially and critically. He often conducts bloggers meet in Chennai and people discuss about movies and music there and I have many times tried to attend it but couldn’t find time. As he has won Best IndiBlog award, he has been invited for many premiere shows of the movies and asked to spread a word about the movies.
Do You Blog?
This blog is truly inspiring and if you wish to become a successful blogger, follow his path but don’t loose your identity in vein and expose your own uniqueness in it. For obvious reasons, I am pretty satisfied with Mouthshut Community and that is why I don’t blog.
