Hiring MM packers was the worst decision I took when shifting on 31st May. I called them after I read some good reviews on the internet. Whoever got good service from them, must’ve got it by accident! Read on as I share my experience.I was running out of time & I needed to finalise on a mover fast.
I thought it made sense to hire these packers based on internet reviews. Bad decision!Among the bigger items that were to be packed, I was concerned about the polished bed headboards. Scratches would spoil them. After a looooong conversation, Abhilash (the contact person for MM packers) informed us that to ensure 0% damage, we should pay Rs. 4000 (It was a local move; within the same area. Others were charging between 2, 500-3, 500) & he will ensure EVERYTHING gets packed.
This cost package would also ensure a supervisor to make sure everything gets packed properly (VERY important; It means you don’t have to tire yourself out supervising EVERY small item that gets packed. Besides, an experienced supervisor knows how best to pack). We were assured that fees would be worth it since they were known for doing a professional and clean job. The packers would unpack EVERYTHING and clean the house. Abhilash sounded more professional that most other local packers we had spoken to. Bad judgement!
The day dawned. The packers came 2 hours late. They needed to make up for lost time and started dumping EVERYTHING (liquids included). We realized that if we want everything to reach the other house safe & sound, we will need to supervise every packing. Thank God we had a couple of friends with us.At one point, my husband thought he saw 1 of the workers take our can of distilled water (for inverter battery) & sneak away somewhere. When he asked the worker about it, he assured my husband that everything would reach the other house. Nothing would be missing.
Later in the night, we discovered the empty can. He had emptied our distilled water into his truck’s engine.1 bed headboard did not get packed, despite our asking them to pack it. By the time it reached the destination, a chip of wood had come off.In a couple of packets, some liquids had spilled over. They were happily throwing my books into boxes, instead of packing them well, until we intervened.
They had no intention of unpacking EVERYTHING (As per Abhilash’s sales pitch) and by the time they left it was nearly night. (A local move, ideally, shouldn’t take beyond 6 hours.)We consider ourselves lucky to have escaped from these packers with as less damage as it was possible. If we were just 2 of us, not trying to shadow their EVERY move, the damage would have been bigger with more things missing. When we told Abhilash that we would pay him much lesser than agreed and why, he couldn’t understand why we shouldn’t pay him Rs. 4000!If you have no other option but to hire MM Packers & Movers, do the packing & moving yourself. You may end up being equally tired and all your household items will be safe & sound!
