All About Elle

I saw Legally Blonde 1 and I really enjoyed it so I was totally excited about seeing the sequel...Legally Blonde 2 : Red, White, & Blonde. Fabulous Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods is back again, and this time she takes over Washington. On with the story - Elle is planning her own wedding so she decides on a whim that her pet Chihuahua’s biological mother should be found so that she could attend her wedding. She hires a private investigator to search for her spoiled canine mother’s wherabouts. She finds her in an animal testing clinic for cosmetics and here is where Elle plans a crusade to stop cosmetic companies from animal testing. Since she works as a lawyer at a high profile law firm, she launches a full blown expose on the evils of animal testing in cosmetic companies in the middle of a board meeting. Her employer is not impressed so he fires her. Not one to sulk & give up, Elle packs her pink suitcase and kisses her soon-to-be husband (Luke Wilson) goodbye as she heads of to America’s capital...Washington, DC. She gets a job as lobbyist through the help of a senator (Sally Field) who was an alumni at her sorority.

At first, everybody scoffs at her bubbly personality, blonde hair, and pink outfits. But her charm wins them over eventually. She hits the books and with the help of a kind hotel doorman (Bob Newhart), she manages to become politically savvy and streetsmart. I’ll stop here because I don’t want to give too much away but the rest of the movie is about how Elle manages to get 280 signatures from senators all over America to sign a petition to ban animal testing in cosmetic companies. I found it rather cute & I clearly understand that the moral of the story is to never underestimate yourself. If you work at it hard enough, you CAN indeed, make your dreams come true. Sounds good, doesn’t it? After all, Reese Witherspoon’s portrayal of Elle Woods is such a positive, cheerful person that won’t let anyone rain on her parade. Unfortunately, this movie suffers from too much of the cutes that it bordered on silly. Certain scenes were hard to digest like a packed courtroom where Elle uses the analogy of human strength as comparable to hair salon visit. It boggles the mind as to how the producers of this movie thought this was funny. Aside from that, the movie in itself is a fun way to spend an hour and a half but unfortunately, not as good as the first Legally Blonde which had me in stitches. I’m giving this movie three stars, no more, no less.
