I am writing this message to vent out my anger against Lenovo. Last Year I purchased a Lenovo Think pad R61 in Australia. This laptop was recommended by my friend saying Thinkpad’s are built like battle tanks and they are very reliable. My requirement was for my personal use. I got the laptop and started using it and then I realized how wrong I was.
Keypad Problem
Within one month (this was n June 2008) of getting the laptop the keypad started giving me problem. Some of the keys were too hard to use. I did call Lenovo customer care in Australia; they promptly sent me anew Keypad. I replaced the keypad myself. Started using the laptop thought this could be a one off case, then again in Feb 2009 I was back to Square one, I was facing the same problem with keypad. I called up the Lenovo customer care in Australia and they asked me send the laptop to them for replacement. The laptop was sent and it was replaced with a new keypad. After this I thought every thing will go well, how ever I was wrong again. This week my
Third keypad has started giving me problem. Arrow key has become too hard and I have to hit really hard to use it. Called up Lenovo customer care in Australia and customer care is saying that they will not replace the keypad and I have to pay for it. If I had faced this problem for the first time then I would happily paid for the keypad but looking at my experience I will have to replace the keypad every quarter. Also note that this laptop is for my personal use. I don’t play games. Typically use my laptop for web browsing and watching movies. If some one uses this laptop for his official work then “God Help the poor chap”
Palm rest problem
Now coming to Palm rest, I feel Palm rest design is horrible. While typing it makes a creaking sound and also the palm rest doesn’t fit properly. If some one can compare the product with DELL/HP then you canfeel that the palm rest is of very very very poor quality.
Repairs done by Lenovo service depot
I faced couple of problem with my laptop. The problems are listed below had Windows Vista Home Premium. Some times Windows would not boot up when the OS goes to sleep it wouldn’t boot up. I had to do a hard reset.
I had a chat with Lenovo customer service they told me that there is a problem with the motherboard and they asked me to send the laptop to service depot. I promptly sent the laptop to the service depot. System was formatted and OS was reloaded and the laptop but the laptop motherboard was never replaced. When I called up Lenovo customer care they told me that they will look into the problem.
Received laptop lots of scratches on the back cover. During the same time I was heading to Indiaand I had to really fight with the Indian support to replace my back cover.
Conclusion
Looking by the history of problems that I have faced wit Lenovo, I feel I did a grave mistake by purchasing a Lenovo product. I should have got HP or DELL. What a junk product I have received. I am writing this blog/letter to all perspective buyers think twice before going to Lenovo. Look out for other laptops.
