Leopold reeks of shantaram and his stories about the place. After shantarams review on the place, the resturant doesnt need any other note of introduction. people come to colaba looking for the leopold. honestly, even before that, leopold stood out as one of the oldest restuarants in mumbai. it has some excellent food, while the drinks are not that great. even the chilled watermelon juice wasnt great.
the best in leos, as it is fondly called, is the breakfast. order the famous english breakfast and get ready for the feast of your lives. it is delicious and very filling. believe me, you wont be hungry even well past lunch time! the ham is guranteed fresh and the brown bread served will get you asking for more. the chips and maybe a beer if you are having a late breakfast, will get you the best high ever. this is not the place for you if you are in a hurry. you are meant to talk and laze around till the waiters notice you and get your order. wait for another 20 to 30 min before your waiter spots you again and reminds the cook about your order. but time is never wasted in the leos. you can talk, besides looking around the place for traces of history embedded in every table. the walled are filled with old pictures framed to give you the look and feel of history.
its a true beaty to be sitting on one of those tables and watch the hawkers outside selling their wares to the passer bys along the passage. sit there and talk with a good friend about life and its curses, or celebrate a great deal. leos is just the place to enjoy an evening with your friends.
