Levis® jeans, of course, are named for the founder of the company that invented them: Levi Strauss, born as Loeb Strauss in Bavaria in 1829. He left Germany in 1847 and sailed to New York and by 1850 had changed his name to Levi. In 1853, he obtained his American citizenship and decided to make a new start and undertake the hazardous journey to San Francisco, a city enjoying the benefits of the recent Gold Rush.
In 1872, he got a letter from Jacob Davis, a Reno, Nevada tailor, who had come up with a great idea. To improve the strength of the pants he made for his customers, he added metal rivets, which proved to be a big success. Levi knew a good business opportunity when he saw one, and in 1873 he and Davis received a patent for an Improvement in Fastening Pocket-Openings.
Levi brought Jacob Davis to San Francisco to oversee the first manufacture of their copper riveted waist overalls, the old name for jeans. These pants were made from brown cotton duck and blue denim. Knowing that the riveted pants were going to be perfect for work wear, Levi and Jacob decided to make them out of denim rather than jean because denim was a very sturdy fabric appropriate for workwear.
It is these trousers that have ultimately become the Levis Jeans that we buy now.
Levis is a brand that has always been synonymous with jeans. You never say here are my Gaps or Wranglers but you to hear someone talk about their Levis is commonplace.
I have been bought Levis many times in the past. Levis come in several styles most of them depicted by a number which varies by the style of fly, leg and cut e.g 501s are button fly with a straight leg.
For women you get a variety of legs such as narrow, boot cut, wide and straight. A variety of flys such as zip or button and a selection of cuts such as narrow, comfortable or roomy so there is a style to suit all. My favourites were the 501s. You also now get Engineered Jeans but Im not sure what these are.
Generally the denim is nice to teach and wears well. It takes a couple of months for the denim to soften and break in as with most jeans. My jeans personally last me about a year year and a half on average but that is with pretty heavy wear.
They cost around £50 on average which is on the expensive side but is not unusual. Given they last as long as they do and are what I want to wear I dont consider them to be too expensive. Therefore for good value and good fashion I would consider recommend Levis Jeans.
