This review is about my 42inch lg led tv. Now to be honest, we need to take a lot of points into consideration when buying tvs. Ill just list them out here, so that anyone who reads my reviews gets benefited. The review follows after this. I thought this essential.
Below points are applicable only for lcd/led tvs and not for 4k
- Whether there are sufficient hdmi/usb ports: 4 each should be sufficient.
2.whether the usb port supports 1tb hard disk. Because most tvs support only upto 500gb.
- Whether the tv supports most video formats like, .avi.mpeg, .flv, .mp4, .mkv, .h264 etc etc. Sony tvs doesnt support many. Only .avi and basic formats supported.
4.whether in built wifi adapter is available or not.most tvs just have wifi compliance. We need to buy separate adapter for it.
Whether we get 3d/dlna/wifi direct/full hd for the money we are offering. Or else go for the tv which gives us most of these within your budget.
If going for 3d, then lg/toshiba uses passive 3d technology. While samsung/sony etc uses active 3d technology. Passive technology is nothing but, we can use inexpensive 3d plastic glasses, which can be used in any angle(sideways/up or down). Need to be in direct line of contact. No need of glass batteries. While active technology uses batteries in 3d glasses, which needs constant charging. These glasses are expensive, and heavy on the eye. We need to be in direct line of contact with tv, or else we will only see a black screen. Suit yourself. Bottom line, both 3d are great for viewing.
Main stuff is the contrast ratio/refresh rates etc, which u need to take care. Anything above 100hz(refresh rate) is good enough. But still the rates go like 60, 120, 240....like wise. 120hz is fine. The higher the refresh rates, the better will be the clarity of fast moving objects. This comes in handy when you watch sports channel, or high speed action movies like the fast and furious etc. But tv companies have got smart. They do not give away refresh rates or contrast ratios directly anymore. They come up with xmr/cmr terminologies for different tv companies. This xmr or cmr terms are a combination of contrast/refresh rates and other ratios, and they just give a total figure:. Now the catch here is that, we as average consumers are never going to get the correct individual figures. So be very careful. Its considered for lg tvs that if cmr=400, then refresh rate should be 240hz. And for samsung xmr>400, then refresh rate=240hz. Google it for the product you wish to buy.
Try to figure out, whats the power consumption, while in standby/operational. This could help you current bills.he he.
9.check for the back-light type, if local dimming effect is available. Picture upscaler is present or not, as this will come in handy if you view pictures from hard disk/mobile. It will enlarge the pictures, without losing the picture quality. Plz note. If you feel that your tv brightness is not upto the mark when you compare with sony or samsung etc at the showroom, ask the sales person there to change the local dimming effect from default to off. I can assure you that the brightness will increase and it will be as good as any sony or samsung tvs.
Check for lan port availability.energy star rating.anything above 5 should be good enough.
Sd(standard) channels are what you are going to watch, if you dont have a hd setup box. So when u go to buy, make sure to view the normal channels rather than the hd channels, which shop people gonna show u.
There is a big downfall for this model.but after purchasing it, i found out a work around for this. I was not able to connect my creative 4.1 speakers to my tv. But i solved this by buying 3.5mm stereo female to 2 rca male y-cable. You can check out the link " https://ebay.in/itm/premium-3-5mm-stereo-female-to-2-rca-analog-male-jacks-6cm-cable-adapter-/140954099130?pt=lh_defaultdomain_203&hash=item20d184ddba&_uhb=1#ht_2726wt_1040" for similar product.
Now im able to play the tv sound to my speakers also.
Whew so much for the tech stuff. Im relieved.
Okay the review actually starts off.
I got this tv for 70k. A gem of a purchase for me. The price tag for this in bangalore chroma/adeshwar/ezone was 90k. Finally i went to lg shoppe in hosur road and bought it for 70k. Lot of bargaining and kinda threatening(he he), that i would buy it from other store, made the lg shoppe guy to sell it off to me for a good price.
Till date i have had no issues whatsoever with this product. Everything is just awesome. The screen is huge, the sd channels are just so clear and stunningly colourful. I am using youtube viewing in tv itself nowadays. There is no lag at all. Mind that you need at least 2 mbps and above net connection for this feature to work properly.
I did not get the magic remote. This magic remote is lgs cursor like feature, that u can use to browse through the smart features of the tv. But i got clever(ha ha), as i downloaded the android application for this feature, and i use the touch screen of my note 2 to scroll through the tv.
The lag between the channel flip is negligible.the TV is wall mountable and they provide, what lg calls ribbon stand as well. I even browse web pages, as many smart TVs dont give a browser to type in websites. 3d is just wonderful to watch.
To add, I got blu-ray player free along with tv, 3 3d titles and 4 pair of 3d glasses. What more can you ask for. Go for it guys. Its the best tv for this price.
Do rate my review if you find it worth while to read. Thanks and cheers.
