A decent all rounder!!!

Are you looking for a phone which hosts all latest set of features? this is the phone for you. It is evident that LG wanted to create stiff competition to

apple’s iPhone and have succeeded to some extent.

I have been using this phone for the past 3~4 months and the experience is neither completely delightful nor filled with disappointments. This phone manages to

score ’Decent’ overall.

Let us try to explore what the phone has to offer in detail:

<> The phone is designed pretty neat and looks decent, the i-phone inspired ’one key’ front panel really complements its looks, when you held

at hand the phone some how fails to give that ’solid feel’.

<> Good thing about this phone is that, on the +ve end, there are no major issues that I could find w.r.t to the basic phone

functionalities, the signal strength is not as good as my old Motorola but not bad either, the call quality is good, battery backup is decent, I charge the

phone once every alternative days. As always LG has not failed to offer handful of useful features and this phone does not annoy you with any of the basic

call/msg functionalities. On the -ve end, I do face small problems, The phone heats up while being charged and I could also feel little heat when used for

longtime and one more strange thing is that, the phone takes quite a considerable to regain network if the connectivity is lost interminably, for instance,

when you use a lift and loose the network inside and when you get out of the lift, it takes 1~2 minutes for the phone to regain netwok (weired !).

<> The first thing that made me feel exited about this phone is the UI, esp the 3D cube, LG’s new S-Class UI works like a charm, esp it looks

great on the greaceful ultra high resolution (480x800) multi point touch enabled display, colours turn out to be really vivid, the visual effects are so

astonishing and this UI has really boosted the user experience of the phone overall and also its usablity, the only issue I faced was that the phone

ocassionally gets confused on its current orientation (Horizontal or Vertical, G sensor of this phone I think is a confused soul!).

<> This phone is really fantastic in this front, the sound quality is awesome and comparable with any top notch music phone in the market, the player

is decent, easy to use and hosts the ’Dolby’ certified music capabilities, which makes listening to music incredible when connected to large speakers, the

direct 3.5 mm audio o/p jack and music keys have to be compromized though.

<> This phone is equipped with 8 MP camera, Kreuznach-Schnelder optics and LED flash, though the spec looks exciting, one should remember that it is still a phone, though the quality is decent, it can never replace a digital camera. Color reproduction was fine but your photos happen to get some portions

grained some times for unexplained reasons, but, this phone really surprised me by offering a bunch of options on the camera that you usually get only with digital cameras, the manual settings lets me do lot of experiments esp manual ISO and manual white balance, you can also actually ’geo-tag’ a picture when it

is being shot and to my surprise I found that the intelligent shot mode actually works most of the time!!! Video recording is not that much impressive but not bad either.

Web experience with this phone is once again decent (here goes the word ’decent’ over and over again !!!) though the web experience is not as good as iPhone it is really acceptable. The browser supports pretty much everything and you can pinch to zoom. I was able to stream youtube videos without any issue.

When I used this phone on 3G network, the speed was good and I was able to play youtube videos without having to wait for it to stream.

<> Though the AGPS in this phone is standalone, the default google maps application provided needs internet to work, moreover the resolution of the application is low and doesn’t look nice on this high resolution display.

<> This phone features all most all of the modern means of connectivity available, bluetooth is 2.0 and supports A2DP for wireless audio streaming and also AV remote control, This phone could be connected to PC via direct USB 2.0 cable and good thing is that, no additional software is needed

to transfer files into this phone, this phone also offers full wi-fi support and also HSDPA (3.5 G) connectivities.

<> This phone boxes an array of applications built-in, you already get almost all the applications that you’ll need pre installed. Though all

the touch screen Java applications does work with this phone, it is really a challenge to find applications for this phone, LG is now coming up with a new

applications store, we’ll have to wait and see on how successfully it would be.

<> Other than music, this phone can play a variety of video formats inclusive of divx, you can zoom in/out the videos and also change the speed of the video playback. You also have a built-in photo editor (pretty decent one, really usable) and also a movie maker which you can use to create slide shows of your photos and MMS them right from your phone, the phone has a FM player, though this FM player cannot be minimized, you also have a FM player widget which can be minimized.

<> This phone has 1.5 gigs of memory on board and also expandable upto 32 gigs via memory card, when you connect the phone via data cable to the PC

both of these memories could be accessed as removable drives.

Verdict : This is not defenitely the ideal phone, but it is ideal for some one who looks for a decent phone with decent features on a decent package with a

decent price tag.
