LG or PAAJI?

I am a distressed yet very loyal user of LG products in India. I have owned right from refrigerators to washing machines, Microwaves, TVs and Monitors by LG.

I write in plurals since I have purchased LG after LG appliance - like first microwave was LG, second was LG ... and same goes on with all appliances, ever since LG was Lucky Goldstar and then became LG.

Somehow there has been something about its quality that has attracted me and forced me to continue buying the same brand over and over again.

Their products I have found are always well thought of, well designed for ease of use, very advanced and offer features ahead of time and quite affordable for the features they offer. Their products have given me lesser complaints and overall they have been very durable in general - all of them.

However, there is another darker side to the story - Once Spoilt LG will take you for a ride!!!!

Apparently they are innovative but care less for their consumers.

My first problem was when I brought a 29" TV which had a built-in VCD player, the price of the TV at that time was Rs 54, 000/-. Wonderful product, great sound, magnificent picture and great VCD experience, but only till the time the VCD head went faulty. I called the repair guy, he said the head has become weak and the entire VCD unit, which is exacly like a CD Drive in PCs needs to be replaced. I asked him why the entire drive instead of head needs replacement, He Had No Answer!

Anyway I asked him to change the entire thing if we do not have the alternative and he quoted me a replacement price of Rs 3, 500/- (when much higher CD drives of LG itself were selling for Rs 1800/- in the market). I felt that this was unjustified and made complaints to the higher-ups but nothing worked, my TV is still without the VCD player functional in it and the TV is now 10 years old - however the rest of it is as good as new and as great as ever.

Now in fact, I recently bought a Samsung Projection TV, however my old TV has more features to offer than my Samsung and which where I get floored by them.

My next similar experience was with the Microwave. The MW served us well for over 6 years and one day conked off. We called the repair guy who even repaired it and made us pay Rs 1100 for a part replacement (mind you the MW was in itself costing Rs 3500 at that point in time. We paid the money, switched it on and lo behold! It was still not functional. The guy disappeared after that for seven long months, whenever we could catch him on phone he would promise replacement, nothing would happen and later he even went on to start counter-questioning - "What are you saying sir? It’s still not done? I’m sending someone today itself."

Next Experience was with our Refrigerator -top of the line, great looks and touch wood no problems at all since last 10 years since we are using it. Cost us more than 53, 000/- then but has served well all these years. Still as good as new, but the problem we have is that it has plastic trays and holders which have cracked over these years. We have been waiting for replacements since last six months and futile promises is all what we get from the Service Center, today tomorrow, day-after, ...next month....goes on!

So heres how me and LG share this love hate relationship, I love them, they hate me and I still love them....
