Strong performance, high-end specs

The Nexus 5, from LG, was unveiled at the Google Play store on October 31st, 2013. It’s an older phone that’s unlikely to be available for purchase new.

The phone runs on the Android operating system, which is currently the most popular platform on the market. Due to this phone’s age, it may not support running the latest software and apps that newer phones can.

Camera Rating: B

The Nexus 5 has a 8 megapixel rear(primary) camera, which will produce high quality photos. Its 1.3 megapixel front camera makes it a below average phone for taking selfies. It can capture 1080p high definition video with its primary camera, which is second only to 4K in terms of recording quality.

Optical image stabilization means that this smartphone’s camera is particularly good at taking videos and images even if the camera isn’t perfectly still. It will actually offset slight movements of the camera lens to capture smooth images.

Display Rating: A+

The Nexus 5 has a 5.0 inch screen, which is typical for a smartphone.

The screen has a resolution of 1, 920 pixels by 1, 080 pixels, making it a 1080p HD screen. Display sharpness can be measured in the density of pixels per square inch of screen, and at 445 PPI, it’s 1.9 times sharper than the average phone released in .

Battery Rating: B+

The Nexus 5 has an advertised talk time of 17 hours, significantly longer than the overall average of 8 hours. In terms of battery capacity, which is the actual electric charge the battery holds, this phone can hold 2, 300 mAh, an above average battery capacity for a phone.

Thinner Than Most with a Lighter Than Average Weight

The phone’s body is 137.92 mm high, 69.09 mm wide, and has a depth of 8.64 mm, 8.1% thinner than an average smartphone. It’s even thin enough to have a case while being thinner than an average phone.

With a weight of 130 grams, it is one of the lighter phones for the size of its screen.

Performance Rating: B+

The Nexus 5 houses a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AA system on a chip. Its CPU runs at 2.26 GHz, which is much higher than average for a smartphone processor.

2 GB of RAM means that it has more memory than an average smartphone, which will boost overall phone peformance.

Putting specs into real application, benchmarks help provide an even playing field for comparison. The LG Nexus 5 performed very well during the benchmark tests. For example, the Geekbench Single Core average score is 426.
