When Reliance introduced their services a few months back, they advertised it as Kabhi Mobile Kabhi Computer.
There was this counter-ad doing the rounds - Kabhi Mobile Kabhi Toaster. Well, in short, both are true!
The phone has all the basic features of a cell phone viz. address book, downloadable ring tones, date time display, list of
numbers dialled, missed, etc. But the features end there. Some essential features like having multiple address books and
assigning different ring tones to them is missing. In vibration+ring mode, both of them do not start off at a time when a call
comes. It vibrates for 2-3 rings and then begins to ring. The adress book has provision to save 3 numbers(like mobile #, home # etc)
against a name. But there is no provision to call any of the 3 numbers against a name. Another unwanted feature is the case
sensitive address book entry. Arun and arun are different while searching!
And, after every 15 minute call, I have to apply some coolant to my ear. I have never seen a phone heating up so much. I am forced
to use the hands free even while at home to prevent damage to my ears due to heat.
The initial fancy of the video and audio on the phone wears off soon. After all its still called a phone. Sorry for the diversion,
still kudos to the Ambanis for bringing in this innovation to the doorstep of a common man at an affordable rate and making the
GSM providers run for their money. I like it, Aha!
Getting back, Tested the internet connection using the inbuilt modem. This thing worked for 2 days. Third day the modem blew up!
As far as battery backup goes, not much of an issue here. As another reviewer pointer out, it would make sense to switch off
the backlight during daytime and enable it only at night. This conserves a lot of power.
Overall, it is a good contrivance. With some more attention to details it wouldve been a stunner. So, as I always say, theres scope for improvement.
