~~~Romantic Comedy Partner~~~
Are you looking for a light entertainer this weekend? Life Partner will fit the bill. A light entertainer with Romance, Comedy & family values, it is a movie you can go with your family, friends or partners and can come out with a smile on you face.
Karan, Bhavesh & Jeet are friends but have different opinion on marriage. Karan (Fardeen Khan) is in love with Sanjana (Genelia Dzouza). Sanjana delay the marriage so that they can enjoy the days before marriage. Her father (Aupam Kher) is not happy with their relation where Karan only have a job. Bhavesh (Tusshar Kapoor) is waiting for his parent’s consent for his marriage. They see him as a child even now. He has to plead them for their permission to get married and his marriage with Prachi (Prachi Jadeja) is now fixed. Jeet (Govinda) is a successful Lawyer specialized in handling divorce cases and don’t believe in marriage. If he didn’t find an opportunity, he will create one; such is his nature. Life Partner is all about how they find their life partners and managed to sail through the waves of challenges.
As you must have already observed, the plot has nothing novel in it. However, the presentation makes us to sit through the entire film with a smile. Unlike many ‘come-die films, ‘Life Partner’ is not filled with vulgar double meaning jokes. The film is not a slap stick but a romantic comedy. The Karan-Sanjana track was entirely based on romance and was considering the need of understanding each other’s limitations. Bhavesh-Pranchi marriage life was testing the question, ‘marriage is it an individual’s agreement or a family affair’. Rumi Jaffery (who directed God Tussi Great Ho) did a good job in making the Life Partner, an interesting film.
Govinda is his usual self in the film. His jovial presence always added entertainment value for the film. Fardeen Khan did an ok performance in the film. Not exceptional, but ok. After Jaane Tu, Genelia Dsouza gives another scene stealer performance in this film. This girl got a lot of energy and you only have to keep her in the frame for all others to get unnoticed. Tusshar Kapoor did full justice to the role. Prachi Jadeja(the Rock On girl)’s role was comparatively smaller, but she made her presence felt in style. Rest of the cast did their small roles well.
Music of the film is a let down. Choreography is good. Editing is ok. Cinematography is good.
Costumes of Genelia need special mention. The costume designer made it as a point to show as many varieties as possible. Some of the designs are extremely beautiful. However, have to say that all those were ‘Mini’s which may only go with the extreme ‘modern’ girls, where even Genelia felt insecure in those costumes and it is visible.
The film lacks believability in certain sequences. The way Prachi agreed to the proposal of Bhavesh & Jeet’s sudden turn around in later half are examples. The climax of the film was a quick fix and don’t go with the otherwise feel good film. It was too dramatic looked like an easy fix.
The major hurdle the film however is to overcome the ‘no hype’ it received. The film well deserves a better publicity. Given the competition for the weekend, it may require more than ‘word of mouth’ to lift the film.
Overall, Life Partner is a ‘feel good’ movie which mixed fun and romance in a good combination. A light entertainer, but not a slap stick or mindless film. Thumps Up!
