Miss Davenport is indisputably among the finest female tennis players on the circuit today. Her record, since turning pro, in 1993, speaks for itself. Winner of a large number of ATP tour titles in singles and doubles, including Indian Wells, Oklahoma City, Zurich and Chicago, she was also the 1996 Olympic champion when she defeated Arantra Sanchez Vicario for the gold medal.
The US Open was won by the American in 1998 when she defeated the Swiss player, Martina Hinggis, 6-3, 7-5, in the final and, of course, she was the 1999 Wimbledon ladies singles champion. Davenport also won the 2000 Australian Open and reached the semi final of the recently concluded Wimbledon championships.
Lindsey Davenport was born on June 8, 1976 at Palas Verdes, California, USA and now lives at Newport Beach also in sunny California. She is some 6 ft 2 in tall and has a powerful serve, some great ground strokes and is renowned as hard working player on the ATP circuit. In my view, she is one of the finest players of her generation and I would not be surprised if she were to go on and win several more Grand Slam titles. She has a good all round game, is quietly efficient and is a good baseliner.
