It's The Time To Khisko ...

I am bored of the Boards!

It has been fifteen months now. Since the past fifteen torturous months, I have been slogging like a washerman’s donkey. (All right, no smart comments, there is no need to remind me that I already am a donkey)

’’Hey, the two of us are biological creatures and there is plenty of chemistry between us. So ... how about getting physical?’’

I had the impression earlier that science comprises of biology, chemistry and physics. I had no idea that it’s also about coffee, coffee and yeah, one more coffee. The eyes may be drooping but this nikamma had to do kaam. SYJC Science ... with the kind of tutors I have had, kaun kambaqht kehta hai ki Hitler mar gaya?

But, the reason why the Board exams have irked me the most is the timing. Bryan Adams ... THE Bryan Adams (All right, I know that I will lose one mark over there because a proper noun must not be preceded by an article, gosh, I am losing it!) is performing live in Bangalore and Delhi in the beginning of February. And the @#$%@ HSC Board have conveniently chosen the same date as the Practical Board Examinations.

Heaven may not be the kind of place which will accept me of all the nikammas, but watching Bryan Adams live in concert would be a feeling which would eclipse all other heavenly pleasures. Since my blood group is B + ve, I decided to look at the brighter side. Since Cloud # 9 wasn’t in my destiny, I decided to be content with Cloud # 8. Bryan Adams, live in concert. On VCD.

--------------------------------------------

’Bryan Adams - Live At Slane Castle’ is pure sin. It was a cold December night when I first watched this CD, New Year’s Eve, in fact. I had decided not to hang out at a pretentious party in a blaring discotheque. Imagine bringing in the new year while watching Adams strumming ’Summer of ’69’ ...

The CD, which costs Rs. 295, features Adams performing in Ireland in 2K, against the breath-taking backdrop of the Slane Castle. This two hour long performance consists of most of the BA classics.

A strum of the guitar is enough to make the entire crowd go crazy as Adams screams ’’Hello, Ireland!’’ What follows is sheer magic.

Adams, in his early years, always wore a denim jacket over a white T-shirt, with blue jeans. It had almost become a uniform of sorts. Nowadays though, he is always dressed in all white.

He may have been described as ’the singer with a perennial sore throat’ or ’the singer who sounds as if he is on drugs’, but the crux of the matter remains that Bryan Adams’ vocals are unparalleled when it comes to singing romantic ballads. However, in this show, the guitaring skills and innovations of Bryan’s fellow guitarist lift each and every number. Can’t Stop This Thing We Started is brilliantly improvised upon and is a treat to hear.

What follows is electrifying. A strum here, a strum there and before they know it, the crowd are listening to the prelude guitaring of Summer Of ’69. Ballistic is too mild a word, as the audience scream in joy, and the sheer craze this number generates even after so many years, is simply unbelievable. It’s Only Love keeps the tempo flowing, as you realise that this concert is simply mind-blowing. And then ...

Look into my eyes ... Four words were enough for the charged crowd to mellow. Everythin’ I Do was beautiful to watch, with Adams singing against the backdrop of the castle, smoke coming out from his mouth as he sings, owing to the low temperature, and the entire crowd swaying from left to right with candles in their hands. Stunning ...

Mel C makes an appearance, and Disc 2 contains some more electric songs. The cream of the second Disc though was Run To You, Heaven and I’m Ready. I’m Ready in particular brings back the serene ambiance of Everythin’ I Doas the crowd go silent, savouring the beautiful song.

The only thing I didn’t like was that Adams sung only one line from Please Forgive Me. He went off stage before singing it, and was recalled for an encore, and Please Forgive Me was duly sung as the credits rolled.

Other songs which were sung during the concert include Back To You, 18 Till I Die, Cuts Like A Knife, When You’re Gone, She’s Only Happy When She’s Dancing, If You Wanna Be Bad, Let’s Make A Night, The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me, Me Is You, Don’t Give Up and Best Of Me.

A must buy. And a mast bye. As I bid goodbye for the time being, with my Board Examinations round the corner. It’s the time to khisko ... rejoice for I won’t be writing a review for some time now! I will continue to rate and comment though, whenever I can come online.
