Sigh! An epic disaster

Let me get straight to the point.

One half of me wanted desperately to like this movie, no matter what , after all my nationlism, pride was at stake and this movie was supposedly a tribute to the martyrs. But the way in which the movie proceeded frame after frame, i cringed deep inside for the manner in which the martyrs were potrayed by the director.I could not even poke fun at the main actors , as it would have indirectly pointed towards the brave heroes who laid their life for the country, but cant help it , JP dutta , made a mockery of the brave heroes. He painted the soldiers , like die hard romantics in college campus.I can understand the turmoil , emotional breakdowns, especially when death is staring right in your face, but there has to be some dignity attached to it , afterall they are brave hearted soldiers and I hate seeing men pouring their emotions out as though it was a devdas moive.JP dutta has failed miserably in highlighting the right emotions .I am sure for godsake that none of the real life heroes would be so sissy enough to act so emotinally as it was depicted.I saw so many sniggering remarks among the audience , it was actually an insult to the jawans than a tribute.Damn these directors, dont know why they have to meddle into such sensitive topics .Dutta made a hash of things in his earlier movie , border and now he still continues in the same vain

Every conversation among soldiers invariably has to start from their fiances or girlfriends and once in a while their mother(forget about the father.) As I said earlier , every one can feel the pain a family goes through, but it need not necessarily be interpreted in words like a poet, it needed a very delicate subtle treatment than over the top loud gestures .Instead of bringing tears , it sometimes turned into a big comedy, and I can virtually hear everyone heaving a huge sigh in the theatre , when the next charecter in line started his flashbacks and add to the misery are the mindless pathetic songs .

Next comes the war sequences.IT was shot in the most amateurish way one can ever imagine.Director was lost for ideas and kept repeating the same thing again and again.I saw most of the soldiers rush towards their enemy in a fit of anger, patriotism and getting shot point blank.Dutta should have concentrated on atleast some basic warfare combat tactics.Be it tiger hill or any other terrain, there was absolutely no focus on the planning, intelligence that went behind the operation, it was all brawl no brain, with soldiers relying only on their war calls , of jai durga and jai kali .

When it comes to technicalities , our directors have a long way to go to come up to international standards.Director may try to impress the audience by giving fancy numbers of 400 odd millions spent on this trash , called LOC, but it would have been even more worth it or appreciated , if he had donated it to the families of soldiers .

The challenge for any director lies in conveying his message aptly within the limited constraints of time and retaining the interests of the audience. What is the point in making a movie like a soap opera running half a day? This director has really gone nuts.Let us not compare Hollywood, even some obscure unheard country can come up with a movie of the calibre like ’’No man’s land’’ , what is the problem with bollywood? If someone really liked this movie, it maybe because out of national pride, respect for those who laid their lives in kargil and not because of the directorial whizardry of JP dutta.
