I live on the western side of Mumbai and I work in town so I have to travel regularly by the Western Railway trains of Mumbai. The Western Railways is trying very hard to improve the standards of the services they are providing to their commuters. They have increased the number of trains and they have started many local trains. But due to the population explosion India is facing the number of trains provided by the railways is not sufficient.
The Railways are not putting in a lot of effort to maintain the trains. This can be very easily proved because its guaranteed that in one train atleast a few windows and doors wont be working. The fans in the trains are most of the time not working. And during rainy season you dont feel like stepping in the trains coz its guaranteed to be very dirty and the roofs and the edges of the windows of the trains are bound to leak which causes a great havoc. Sometimes you even find cockroaches and flies. Is this called cleanliness? And they say they are on a cleanliness drive! Though I can sympathise with them to an extent coz the people who travel are also not bothered to keep the place clean.
Although I have to say this that if you have to go anywhere in Mumbai its better if you travel by the Railways because its reasonable and less time consuming comparatively to the other mode of transports.
