Largest Democracy - The Joke is on us ...
Review : Its over, the 14th Lok Sabha Elections and the way it?s over, I am already adjusting my calender for 15th. As we gather to review the current state, the people for whom it matter, the people who care to think, its a very sorry state that we can talk and write more rather then go and vote. Flow of words does not matter; the thing that matter is pressing the button as casting the vote is history now.
The largest democracy in word is a big comic show we put in front of world, free passes available to one and all. Taking the stock of the situation, the word majority will never hold any meaning (since 1998, its been so), the new term is collation. People are taken for a ride by Politicians (its a different breed and should not be confused with human beings), where your vote hardly matters, the thing that matters is post result mathematics.
Its not even about compromising with party ideologies as they don?t exist. The magic figure is 272 and not a single party can achieve that, not even INC which boasts of ruling (they don?t use the world serve anyway) India for 50 years or so. The media reduces the tension and burden of common man by mentioning alliances as Congress+ or BJP+.
Media tosses the headlines as Keh Do Na, You are my Sonia and Grab a comfy chair, popcorn and be glued for the results, let the show begin. You cannot make a further mockery of the situation. A ideologist social person committed suicide in Karnataka after the results announced, may he rest in peace as he was anyway born in the wrong era. Emotions, nationalism, progress, addressing issues are far cry from what these guys have to offer.
Personally, I feel if the largest democracy needs a foreign national (ok she holds dual citizenship, big deal) to run the country, we need to rethink the situation. If marrying a political family is a big credibility, it came the day she got married to Gandhi family, but If I was living in a foreign land for more than 30 years, I would have a better command over countrys language. By the way, we are still away from the core issue, does she understand us? I will not go on further debate as I dont think she is cable of more then two thoughts about her.
The fate of the government is decided by the voters who earn a living, hand to mouth, where votes are pressed on the status of water supply and electricity power, further extended to roads to their villages. Surprisingly, the condition of these people have not even inched towards anything better in past 50 years, it wont be any different this time too. Economy, IT , Diplomatic Progress, National Projects never bring a party to power, till we vote.
The middle class can talk and fight and impress their colleagues in walks of life with their knowledge of situation, but voting...a big NO. We deserve the Politicians we get. If we look across the trend, generally, the people chosen last time were ousted and lesser known devil or forgotten devil are brought back. Does it change the situation? The first solution to these problems will be a compulsory voting, if it shoots the election budget of Rs 13000 Crores four times, still its a safe bet, at least we get what we wanted.
Do we want 5 parties with no ideologies but 50 seats each to sign a paper and start ruling us? Come together and vote, believe me, the next elections wont be very far.
