This is to advise anybody against going to Lonavla unless you are staying in a good hotel like Lagoona Resort or something. Most of the hotels there are sleazy and low class. I recently drove down to Lonavla with my friends with the intention of trekking in the nearby hills.
We drove down from Mumbai and arrived early morning. We checking into a small hotel Aviskar, changing into our trekking gear and went ahead with our trekking. Since we were short on cash and were only going to sleep for 2 nights, we decided that a small hotel will do fine. After a hard days trekking, we came back at 6 or so. We found our small hotel was abuzz with activity.
Quite surprised we found local couples renting room by the hour to do you-know-what. Shocked, we complained to the manager who was equally surprised thatwe didnt know about this!
He said since we had a few girls in our group, we went there for the same reason! We tried to sleep in our rooms but the constant noise andactivity kept us awake. The girls in our group were also getting very upset at the behavior of the hotel staff. Having no option, we checked out and slept in our cars that night. next day, we checked in to a Three Star Hotel(though it cost us a bunch) but atleast we were comfortable.
Later we found out that most of the smallhotels in Lonavla are doing this type of activity and serving couples locally and from Pune/Mumbai. So please beware! If you are going to Lonavla, stay in a Good Hotel and be safe. Specially girls should be most careful and it is better to go out in the evenings in groups.
But to tell the truth, dont let this stop you from going to Lonavla. It has great atmosphere and definitely is a relief from Mumbais hustle and noise.
