London City Airport (LCY) is really not one of the best known airports in the UK but actually it is doing quite well. Located only six miles from Central London, this small, rather cosy airport, is reachable by taxi, Buses such as services No 473 which serves places such as Statford Silvertown, No 474 covering the likes of Canning Town, North Woolwich, and East Beckton, and No 69 which Silvertown, Canning Town, Walthamstow and nearby Leytonstone. You can also get there by tube via the impressive Jubilee Line.
There is an airport shuttle bus in operation - it leaves every 10 minutes from outside the LCY terminal and goes to Liverpool Street, Canary Wharf and Canning Town stations.
The facilities are good at this airport.There is a Bureau de Change, Banks, Information Centre, Cashpoints, a Shoe Shine Service and a good mix of shops and restaurants. Let us look at the shopping first.Well there is Bally outlet with their luxury offerings, World News for your newspapers, books etc, a branch of Bewleys and Nuance Travel Shopping, Here there are top brands such as Hugo Boss, Swarorski jewellery, fine wines, spirits and other gourmet lines, There is also for businessmen the Meridien Business Centre.
If you are feeling peckish LCY will not disappoint you.Breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided at the Meridien Line Restaurant which has covers for 110 diners.Among the house specialities are Braised Lamb Shank, Grilled Red Bream Fillet and Saute Calves Liver.Hot and Cold Tapas might appeal to you in which case head to the Tapas Bar and Coffee Corner.Light meals can be enjoyed at Bewleys whilst The Tratoria serves up pastas and salads.For those passengers in a hurry the Marche Fras Cafe sells tasty baguettes, salads and sushi.Indian passengers are best seeking meals outside the airport- there are plenty of Indian and Bangladeshi eateries in this part of London.
A number of airlines like Virgin, Lufthansa and British Airways have services from London City Airport. Destinations served include UK places such as Manchester, Dundee, Galway, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.In Europe places flown to include the likes of Bremen , Basle, Antwerp, Munich, Brussels, Duddeldorf, Rotterdam, Parlis (Orly airport), Zurich and other Continental destinations.
All in all despite the prophets of doom, London City Airport has done well and is quite popular with passengers.
