For all those who believe that there mobile service is bad, this can be a relatively new experience.

I am sure they would find it worse.

They claim that they have strengthened their network in Pune and but just enter into any AC room and you would find your cell saying “No Network” or “SOS calls only”.

Moreover, you would not be able to download the ringtones that you read about on Indiatimes/TOI (8888).

They do have their own collection of ringtones, which are outdated. They haven’t got any polyphonic tones though that many people now would like to have.

No free calls, no free sms anymore! You pay and you pay a hefty bill each time!

Roaming is heavily charged. Roaming connection fees, STD plus airtime, roaming airtime, roaming surcharges everything ….

Oh…. I almost sort of forgot to tell you… of late they have launched a new feature/service. It displays the location where you are at that moment. Like they have it in Mumbai. So, while driving or commuting in the local train you know whether you are in Dadar, Mahalaxmi, Fort, CST etc..

But back here in Pune, you don’ t need to travel. It will automatically change and display the names of the nearby area one –by –one. And you will feel tired of ‘travelling’ so much all along the day.

Their website is not to be missed. It is just like their ringtone booklet. It gives you login, some good information on the technologies and lot of photos of models feeling great about the service. But try to load a picture on the MMS page. After an hour of loading it will show you a ‘cannot find server’ page.

You can’t copy or even send ringtones directly to you phone. The site serves you only as a list of the jokes and ringtone code book.

I was victimised when I heard about their schem for the Coporate users. It is a post paid account. “you don’t’ need to pay anything now. Just Rs. 169/- pm. Rs. 1.69 per minute for the Maharashtra and Goa circle. Mumbai calls at Rs 1.99.We would come and collect the bills”

Not that any of the above thing were wrong. But the mere fact that the service is poor, puts you off.

I decided for the scheme not for the service to be frank. That time only BPL was offering a 169 scheme. IDEA office were too busy and had no special offers for the corporate users. Airtel users were already crying about the bills and poor connectivity. And it takes time to get a VSNL account.
