I may be blamed for going with the moment, but mark my words. In years to come THIS trilogy will replace StarWars and Matrix as THE classic trilogy of this genre.
I loved FOTR. I am not much of a tolkein nor fantasy fan. But, I am a big fan of SCI-FI movies. So, I read the book and saw the first one on preview night. That time I thought I have not seen a better SCI-FI than that. I was proved wrong with this sequel. I hesitate to proclaim this as the greatest sci-fi ever only because I know too much of meat (in the original Tolkien series) has been saved for the grand finale, The Return of the King. Two Towers was actually only the middle portion on the book with the start and end severed and re-attached to its siblings. the famed middle child syndrome! It may just be my ignorance or arrogance to claim that the books are not exactly gripping/un-put-downable and try readers patience (you cant amass a fellowship to read it for you , can you ?:), movies so far dont, even with 3 hours screening time each.
I wont crib the charactors lack depth n all. there are too many charactors in the story for a few to be fleshed out. id say viggo as Aragorn is the screen n heart stealer. This is purely a visual movie and is to be seen n felt. not analysed. The charactors ably do their job and well thats about what is expected of them. You can atleast tell one from another. The winners are the sweeping cinematography, stunning special effects (crown jewel being the entirely CGI gollum), sets and outdoor locations, creature make-up, epic battle scenes, the size of entire CANVAS !! its mind blowing maan !
Well guys, all I can say is; do urself a favor. see this movie, see it again. Buy the special edition DVDs, learn movie-making from it ..
Id centainly reccommend prospective viewers to have some idea about the trilogy. The movie kinda starts in midle of a rush and youll soon be lost if you cant gather whats happening. In the movie , youll also realise that the book has been sliced and diced into three separate threads : (journey of Hobbits, frodo and non-hobbits) and rewoven to run in parallel. That was a neat trick !
If you cant read the books, atleast go read this summary page : https://.sympatico.ca/aule/movie/story/index.html
what the heck, let me do it meself :) I hate to do it, but someone recently asked me if Two Towers is based on the WTC attack. So, things are not as obvious as the seem to me.
Story so far :
Its middle earth where many races dwell together peacefully, until evil eye of souron (villian) wants to rule middle earth with help of nine divine rings.
Frodo is of a a peace loving hobbit (hero) who unwillingly comes in possession of the ruling ring (one ring to rule them all) and is told to go to mount doom (in heart of mordor, where souron rules [1st tower]) and distroy the ring. Mordor is helped by wizard Saruman , ruling Isengard.[the 2nd tower] A fellowship of all races is formed to help frodo with his journey. Fellowship suffers many difficulties on the way and finally breaks into three factions (mentioned above)
Plot:
Hobbits are captured by orks to be taken to Isengard. Orks are slain by men and hobbits escape to join Ents. Ents attack and distroy Isengard.
Frodo meets a hideous creature gollum, earlier possessor of the ring which has distroyed him completely. Frodo sees his future in gollum and befriends him to take him to mount doom.
All non-hobbits join in and fight souron in battle of helms deep. (the climax)
Thats as concise as it can get!
