I was in the sophomore year in college when I friend of mine gave me this book. I liked reading but had never read any of Erich Segal works. Love Story, the title seemed to be like of a hindi movie. I didnt have much expectation from the book. Since I had nothing much to do and this was the only novel I was having at that time, I started reading it. It seemed I entered a different world.
Love Story is a book about two people having nothing in common. Their background, field of study, way of thinking were all miles apart. Oliver Barrett IV, who hates the number in his name, is studying in Harvard when in the library he meets this female Jenny Cavilleri. Their talk starts from a fight and ends up in a date. The conversations between them are funny and hilarious, touching and sad. The way the author has described the smallest of things is excellent. The humor in the novel is such that it can bring tears in your eyes. The novel brings out a mixture of feelings; it makes you laugh and cry at the same time.
Overall, it is a great romantic novel. I have read it a couple of times now. Each time I read it I love it.
Anyone who reads Love Story must also read Doctors by Erich Segal.
