I had just broken off with my bf, thats when a friend of mine intended to give me a pile of books so that I keep myself busy reading them..the rest of them were huge consisting of more than 1000 pages..and I had no interest at that time to finish reading those novels..LOVE STORY was at the bottom of the pile.
As I reached for it..the entire pile fell and I just picked up the book and curled in my seat and went on reading it. I finished it in an evening flat.
But thats not the point..this book holds on to U as much as U intend to hold on to it...its not at all mushy with all the dramatic sweet words of love and romance..this is a different image of love, just the way two different individuals felt for each other..
I remember reading the line..where she says she loved his body..when they were going out to have coffee...thats straight forward..
Its completely realistic..the arguments..the love, the patience and the death.
Jennys character seemed the strongest when she died..I could say, she looked straight into the eyes of death..with the words..falling off the cliff in a slow motion..
And dying in Oliver?s arms..wow..thats what I want ..dying in the arms of the man I love..just to feel loved and safe till my very last breath.
As for Oliver..I loved the relationship he had with his father in the end..you may go places but in the very end , its home when you are with your family. The hug he shares with his father..just rips you open.
Erich Segal has got in characters which are realistic and practical..other than couples running around trees to show their love.. Here, its just the words which do the trick..
His other works Olivers Story and Class of 84(I guess, read it a long time earlier) are his other fabulous books.
If u have not read Love Story , please do read it, it gets me all emotional in the end..but its always been one of my all time favourites..
It portrays an image of love that will never die......
