Rajshri Productions is known for its sweet, romantic movies and this one, Love You Mr. Kalakaar, definitely fits the bill. The amazing part of the movie is its sincerity of approach towards an artist or kalakaar. Coming from an idealistic stand point it looks at an artist as someone who restores "humanness" in society.
The romance between Ritu(Amrita Rao) and Sahil(Tusshar Kapoor) begins when he signs up to be the artist to design the companys mascot. His psychological / human approach towards Ritu makes her warm up to him and a sweet romance begins between them. The fact that the Kalaakar is a good human being untarnished by the money-making corporate world comes through when the story puts him in a situation of running Ritus dads(Ram Kapoors) organization. The story also reveals another side of a failed artist through Buis(Madhoos) character who married a poet but never appreciated hiskalaakari after the marriage. Of course, in the film the romance succeeds and so does the kalakaar in the corporate world, changing mind sets of the people who have existed there for years. Not only that, he also fulfills his dream of getting his cartoon strip published in a leading news paper.
In this sugar-coated romance, the story very subtly reveals the trouble of being an artists life partner as well. In the characters of Madhoo and Amrita Rao, one sees the struggles in being the life partner of an artist. Madhoos character seems to have failed at the attempt, but Ritu possibly will not because she understands the essence of Sahil.
With soothing melodic music and smooth cinematography, Love You Mr. Kalakaar is a welcome change in the spate of films that need quick cuts without reason and expletives to catch audiences attention. Amrita Rao looks her best in this movie as compared to all the films of her past and Tusshar Kapoor emerges as a talented actor with an ability to hold a range of emotions. one is reminded of his innocence in his debut filmMujhe Kuch Kehna Hai but this film only takes it further in revealing his range as an actor. His sincerity comes through very naturally in the role and so does Amritas. All actors have done a brilliant job and are well-cast. The editing is smooth and flows with the soothing quality of the film.
It is a must-watch and a welcome change as it holds up ideals in a very positive manner! A sweet, soothing, ideal romance.
