Review by chance..

Note: This review is not really a review of the movie but actually my interpretation of the movie and scribbling of my thoughts related to this movie. Anyone looking forward to read a pure review in order to learn about the story of the movie are advised to stay away from this review!

Well yeah the title of my review itself establishes the fact that I was not very keen to watch this flick nor did I intend to write a review on the same... So, I call it a review by chance.. :)I have read quite a few takes on this movie. While sifting through the reviews posted on MS, one thought nagged me.. The thought was something like...

Was the movie only about Bollywood industry, struggle to make it big and achieve your dreams, superb performances, commendable debut as a director, success, failure, life, love and L.U.C.K ??In a way the movie was about all of it but it had something more to it which I failed to take note of in any of the reviews which I have read.

I thought that the movie had a deeper meaning to it.. A meaning which can give us a lesson for life.. A lesson given in such a beautiful and hearty way goes a long way to prove that yes we are capable of learning without actually feeling burdened with heavy doses of lecture on life and it’s matters.

We can learn a lot about life and living if we have a close look at our daily lives and people we come across in our lives. We need not read long self-help books, we need not attend some spiritual classes, we need not meditate... in order to derive learning from life.. All we need to do to learn about life.. is to start living consciously..

Anyways.. enough of dragging.. Now, let me dwell into the learning that I got from the movie.Dreaming and Achieving are two verbs which are quite important in our lives.. as most of the important phases in our lives revolve around these two verbs.. Whether our growing up days where we dream of getting good marks, or is it teenage where we dream of love, or is it mid-age where we dream of climbing success ladder, or further in our old-age where we dream of getting love from all around and getting solace in God..

Dreaming and achieving goes hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other. When we dream, we also want to achieve it. Whatever we want to achieve or probably have achieved was once a dream.Another two words which are related to our life are Success and Failure..

Relationship between these two is also not something which needs to be explained.. and these could be called as off-springs of the above mentioned words (Dreaming & Achieving) because when we are busy pursuing above things (Dreaming & Achieving) one of the two (success or failure) is bound to happen.

Now, what is Luck then?? What is the relationship of luck with success and failure? Those who believe in luck boast that they know it quite well.. But what about those who believe in themselves? Why does luck element keep hanging around their lives and does not go away permanently?

They would want to believe that there is nothing like luck.. it always happens as per their wishes and desires... but then some situations\incidents in life make them lose hope, some unanswered questions hover around and make it difficult for them to continue believing in themselves and then they slowly and steadily fall prey to the glistening glitter of LUCK..But, I continue to be a stubborn person and despite whatever life has shown, I maintain that....

Luck is something which is shallow and is very much like an abstract. Those who does not believe in themselves believe in luck.I know and can see many raise their eyebrows at this statement. But let me explain this with an example from the movie itself. [Ah, finally something about the movie! ]

The two protagonists in the movie - Vikram (Farhan Akhtar) and Sona (Konkona) are struggling to make it big in the Bollywood industry. Their lives also exhibited dreaming, achieving, success, failure and.... Luck?? may be... may not be...

Sona is a struggling actress who dreams of what?? May I ask?? Vikram plunges right in and answers, "She dreams of working as a lead actress in Pinky Productions headed by Ashish Chowdhary."

Vikram is a struggling actor who dreams of what?? Now, I would like to answer this question based on my understanding of the movie. He dreams of making it big in Bollywood industry... He dreams of becoming a successful actor.

Now, as we know what their dreams were, let us try and find out about realization of their dreams.

Both of them got what they truly wanted from life and asked from life.. She never became successful actress because all she wanted was to be casted in a movie by Pinky Productions. Her mind was engrossed in Pinky Productions and that one elusive movie which she was promised would be offered to her. She chose failure and hence failed.

On the other hand, he became successful because all he wanted was to become a successful actor.. Nothing discouraged him.. not even his aunt’s comments, not his friend’s statements. He was determined to become an actor.. and so his wish was granted.

Towards the end, Sona also settles herself as being happy and content in pursuing life as a TV actress which might have been her true calling that she failed to realize in the earlier phase of her life. Earlier she chose failue and hence failed… Later she chose success and hence became successful…

So, where is Luck?? If it is there anyways, then it sure is …by chance..

As Vikram says in the movie, "success ya failure... life mein.. hum khud chunte hai...A friend of mine (sweets_desire) asked this introspecting question in her review on the same movie. The review triggered from there… And excerpt of her question and my answer…

Her Question: What do you think everything happens because it has been destined to happen that way or there are things that happens by chance only?My Answer:I would say neither. I feel and believe that whatever happens in our life is only and only because of our desires and what we truly want from life.. life gives us just that... nothing less, nothing more...
