Lucky to see a sensitive love story

The current trend of Bollywood has been rather dissapointing. Action flicks with everything but action, murder stories which are so predictable that you can walk out after ten minutes of seeing the movie and love stories which have no plots, only star value. It’s been a while that Bollywood has made a sensitive love story. Most of them concentrate on college romances which is more of a fairy tale than anything else. But, Lucky hopes to bring the sensitiveness and innocence of romantic love stories back to Bollywood and is a good start to the year.

Set in Russia, the story has a backdrop of civil war(inspired greatly by the Chechen rebel attacks). You have the Aishwarya Rai look-alike Lucky Negi(Sneha Ullal) who is a serious student uninterested in anything else except studies. Her Indian friends await the return of the dashing and handsome Aditya Sekri(Salman Khan); but Lucky isn’t interested. An unforseen incident occurs when Lucky is on her way to school and as luck would have it she is a stowaway in Aditya’s car as he is making his way to Moscow. As luck would have it there is a shootout at the border and Aditya and Lucky run away. Civil War is declared and Aditya’s and Lucky’s parents are worried about their safety.

Enter Pindidass Kapoor or Pd Kapoor(Mithunda) as he is called, a smart detective and a master of disguise. He goes into the mission trying to locate Lucky and Aditya. What happens afterwards and how love develops forms the crux of Lucky.

The biggest plus point about the movie is the scenic locations and the awesome cinematography. The directors do a splendid job in showcasing the bequtiful and scenic locations of Russia. The songs are also executed with equal grandeur. The screenplay is good but a rather abrupt ending leaves much to be desired. The music by Adnan Sami is a 50-50 attempt and though they are nice songs shot extremely well, some people might have an empty feeling about them.

The actors put in a rather competent job. Sneha Ullal plays the role of Lucky well, people may consider her acting childish but that’s how the role’s written. Mithun is as usual quite good with his comic timing and action sequences. It reminds of you of the Mithun of the old days. But, finally the movie belongs to Salman Khan. His curt remarks, machoism and sensitivity makes you hold on to your seats. I would regard it as one of his best performances. Way to go Sallu Bhai! In short Lucky is a good, sensitive love story and is worth every bit of your money.
