*****************************************************************

Adnan Sami a famous pop singer has mesmerized India with his husky voice and romantic croons... Yet I never enjoyed his music... I thought it was quite odd... But hearing his first hindi film album he has created has blown my ears away. Now I have seen the true genius in him... Those who said this album is a hangover from his own pop albums are entirely wrong! This album should hit #1 on the charts because it totally deserves it!

And I have proof...

Jaan Meri Ja Rahi Sanam - Udit Narayan & Anuradha Paudwal

This song has a very sweet beginning with soft piano notes along with a peaceful violin/orchestra in the background. You can hear Anuradha’s fainted hum as well. It is like those heavenly music you hear in your dreams. You can instantly know that this song will be picturized on someone dreaming about that special person. You can also already tell that this will be a great romantic song that will be in your head for a while and you will not stop listening to it. Not being a good fan of Udit’s voice but he has exceptionally well along with Anuradha surprisingly. She could have done better though.

The best part about this song is the tabla beats, the flute swaying with the orchestra and my favourite, where the lead guitar is rocking along in the verses. I love it in the first verse, where as Udit sings his line, and Anuradha hums along behind his voice. Waah! Kya guitar and tabla hai! I am so surprised and happy to hear the wonderful lyrics Sameer has written for the first time! You won’t believe it is his work! My favourite line is:

Kya ladakpan hai kya jawaani hai

What is childhood, what is youth?

Ab tumhare naam saari zindagaani hai

Now my whole life belongs to you

Kya haqeekat hai kya kahaani hai

What is real, what’s make believe?

Saamne mere mere sapnon ki raani hai

In front of me stands my dream girl

MY RATING: 9.5/10

Sun Zara - Sonu Nigam

Inspired by one of Sonu’s pop song in the beginning, it seems like we heard one too many Catholic hymns in hindi songs - I know I have. But hearing the unique beats right in the beginning that included the snare drum and Indian drums, it made me want to listen to more. I like the whole aspect of using the sad guitar, sad violin coinciding with Sonu’s voice. Though the verse music may sound quite mediocre but just listen to the guitar in this song - I simply love the tempo. It’s a great sad song whereas Sonu is no doubt amazing. Hear out how the beats changes to a traditional hindi song in the verse. Adnan has really experimented well mixing with Westernindian. Classic. Adnan also knows a lot by creating such amazing tunes from simple instruments. Hear out the violin just before the second verse.

My favourite line includes:

Beethe lamhon ke saaye toh bas yehi dham gaye hai

From past moments’ shadows

Yaad mujhe aaye teri baatein

I think of your conversations...

Palkon ke surk chaader pe ashk bhi jam gaye hai

Underneath the red gaze ectasy/passion has frozen

Teri aankhon se na hathti ankein

I can’t take my eyes off yours...

Shayad Yahi - Adnan Sami & Lata Mangeshkar

We were missing an Adnan voice weren’t we? Don’t worry, it made sense why he sang this particular song since it is THE BEST SONG IN THIS ALBUM! Perfect! Lata and Adnan have blown me away! Seriously they have. This song is better than ’’Tere Liye’’ from Veer-Zaara. I’m telling you! And the lyrics are just aww... This song began with a sad and simple flute overlapped from the strings section. I gotta say, the music is no indian - but more of a classical note. Adnan bringing his romantic tone out with the committed tabla beats. So refreshing! So simple and beautiful. Seriously just listen to the song, because I cannot come up with better word to describe this magnificent number. Gotta give an standing ovation to Adnan’s ideas and his tabla player. Sitar, strings, piano, tablas, Lata, and

Adnan.. What more could you ask for? Hands down, the best part is the music before the verses. My favourite line:

Lata: Nazrein bichaade pehre lagade dil pe; par dil kisiki na maane

Adnam: Kaanton pe chalke sholon mein jalke roke; milke rahenge diwaane ooh oooo

MY RATING: 10.5/10! (can I do that?)

Chori Chori - Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik

Catchy, very catchy with the male chorus synchronizing the tabla beats. It’s unique, fresh. I love the spunky bass and lead guitar dancing with the beats. Sonu and Alka sounds very cute together in this nunber. Gotta give it up for Adnan with his fresh ways to present music. The male chorus are really talented and they are the highlight of the song. It did kind sound very South Indian. I really love the percussive beats in this song. I don’t know why everyone is saying it is a typical love song - maybe the lyrics is - but definately not the music. It’s a great, foot-tapping number. Pretty good for a car ride, you may want to clap along with this song. My favourite line:

Yun beeti jaaye apne milne ki ghadi

Our time together will get wasted this way

Apne milne ki yeh ghadi

This time of ours

Main boloon toh kya, kaisi mushkil aa padi

I tell you, this is such a bother

Kaisi mushkil yeh aa padi

MY RATING: 8/10

Lucky Lips - Asha Bhosle

Asha?! Asha?! Yes! She is in this album! We haven’t heard her in a while. She sings the second best song in this album - IMHO. The title ’Lucky Lips’ may sound like a instrumental to you, but it’s not. It did in the beginning... But Asha’s ’’Hai Rama Rama Ho’’ was perfectly on time. I immediately got into the song. It’s like a jazzy, calypso, and salsa kind of music. Something unique and something Nadeem-Shravan, Reshammiya, Vishal-Shekhar and others cannot do. This did however sounded like an Usha Uthup song, but it is not, because Usha’s music is corny. Asha simply shines through the song.

I LOVE the way the tabla is used - like the way the drums is used. Gotta love the trumpets, horns, guitars and the female chorus - very westernized and cool. You may be surprised by the lyrics at first, but to me it is great. It represent the teenage girls (including me!) waiting for their Prince Charming. I think the lyrics are cute! I love it, preppy, catchy. Can you believe Asha is almost in her 80s and she is singing songs like this?!?! AMAZING!

Aayaga Koi, Bahon Mein Lekhai, Choomaiga Mere Yeh LUCKY LIPS.. Ay Hai!

MY RATING: 9/10
