Living in Frankfurt and with family in England, flying with Lufthansa is thus inevitable. It is the most prominent airline in Germany and in Frankfurt - occupies most of Terminal 1.
In the last four years, I have flown with Lufthansa around 20 - 25 times (round-trip), averaging around 6 trips per year. Most of these flights have been Economy Class, with around 1 trip per year in Business.
The biggest advantage that Lufthansa provides to me over other airlines, is it’s availability (reasonable flight times, frequency of flights) and the fact that it is a Star Alliance Member - the latter enabling me to accumulate Miles and More points quite easily (airlines, hotels, car rental etc) and to redeem them fairly easily too (via telephone or online; redeeming miles for upgrades to higher classes on international flights is especially rewarding).
From living here, I can honestly say that the lack of service is endemic within Germany - hence Lufthansa is no exception. In business class however, I noticed that the service is slightly warmer that that offered in ’cattle class’.
On average, Lufthansa are punctual - and as they always factor in at least 30 minutes of delay in their flight estimation, I have arrived more-or-less within the scheduled time. Warning: expect huge delays in peak periods though, e.g. Christmas, Easter breaks. Lufthansa/the airport ground staff - seem unable to cope with very long queues of people, and at times I have been extremely frustrated at ’Business’ or ’First’ class booths, which are empty and yet the staff there appear reluctant to reduce the Economy class queues by dealing with people from there!
Overall though - Lufthansa is good value for money (they frequently have special offers at specific periods for popular destinations and last-minute deals can be very good value for money - comparable to the ’no frill airline’ prices) and a very convenient airline to use for a relatively frequent traveller like me.
